The Future of NFL Rookie Cards: The Signs of Greatness to Come from Panini America

August 25, 2011

How’s this for cool: At this very moment, some of the most coveted and valuable Rookie Cards of the entire 2011 NFL season are stacked discreetly along an otherwise nondescript hallway at Panini America HQ, cataloged neatly inside a heaping mound of white storage boxes.

Over the course of the next several weeks, Joe White, the man tasked with procuring all of Panini America’s NFL autographs, will ensure that every last one of them receives the on-card autograph that will make them complete.

No pressure, huh?

Frankly, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I came across the stunning assortment of Rookie Cards and accompanying parallels before me, gorgeous gems one and all slated for inclusion in 2011 Absolute Memorabilia, 2011 Crown Royale and 2011 Limited. I did a double take . . . then a triple take. And as soon as White had finished making his list and checking it twice, I jumped at the opportunity to bring you the following images.

The next time you see these beauties — ideally in a gallery right here on The Knight’s Lance — they’ll be autographed. And they’ll be spectacular.

Until then, though, you’ll have to use your imagination.

the logo-under-logo-cutout cards are brilliant. Are all the crown royale rookie cutout ones patches this year?

    • August 25, 2011 3:37 pm

All the RCs are, yes sir.

that was a terribly-worded question. No 1-color ones like 2010? I’ve been trying like crazy to get a good deal on a 2010 one, but this makes me less anxious. These are so much better.

Funny. No one-color RCs. All base RCs in Crown Royalw will feature prime pieces this year.

I just bought a box of Luxury Suite and every card in the box has a bent/creased bottom left corner. Do i have to submit every card or can i mail in the whole box?
    Thanks, Josh V

The Rookie Premier Materials cards are absurd, those are National Treasure level stuff. What are the poor NT design team going to have to do to one up?

Nice Seinfeld reference there brother. And I am torn between Teri Hatcher and your rookie cards…

Thanks, Douggie. Appreciate you stopping by. Thanks for the kind words. That Teri Hatcher is something else.

I’m so glad to see that Absolute is getting away from the NFL die cut. it seemed like those got damaged easier than any other card because the “N” always seemed to get messed up, because it was so thing at the points. These cards look amazing. Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work. Now if I could just get my Kobe auto redeemed, I’d be a very happy person.

They still have the NFL diecut versions. The ones in the pics are just the “jumbo prime” parallel. The base RC auto will have the NFL diecut like always, but in the new horizontal layout this year. So more damage problems most likely.
