2012 National Treasures Baseball Shines in a Panini America Pre-Packout Preview

While the sports world’s collective attention over the last few days was largely fixed on Houston and the myriad festivities surrounding yesterday’s 2013 NBA All-Star Game, a small contingent of folks from Panini America worked quietly and diligently preparing the landmark premiere edition of 2012 National Treasures Baseball for an intensive packout process that begins in earnest today.

The pre-packout process — in essence scrutinizing every single card intended for inclusion in the product and placing them in their pre-determined collation loops — started early last week and didn’t conclude until late Friday. But being in Houston prevented The Knight’s Lance from witnessing the process firsthand. Luckily, though, Panini America’s Ben Ecklar and Carlos Torrez provided the following sneak-peek images.

While the stunning array of Ty Cobb, Lou Gehrig and Jackie Robinson collection-making booklets are must-see material, we think you’ll find the cut autographs of Evel Knievel and Amelia Earhart (along with a piece of her airplane) to be quite profound, too. Enjoy this early look at just some of the jaw-droppers slated to appear in 2012 National Treasures Baseball. We’ll have much more on the product later this week.

  1. I really like how on the patch cards the colors of the patches really pop when contrasted with the monochrome player photo. Makes them stand out really well.

That Evel Knievel auto is sure a blast from the past. I remember quite a few times growing up watching his stunts (I guess on ABC if I’m not mistaken).

    Great stuff!!!

    Thanks for showcasing them!

  2. Unbelievable. Truly unbelievable. To take one of the few remaining autographs of people like Cobb, Earhart, or Gehrig and place them in a sports card is a bolt move, but bold is the word I’ve always used to describe Panini’s standout productions. The greatest sports cards I’ve ever seen guys, and I’m not even a baseball fan. Great work on this exquisite product!

  3. Nice Loooking cards.I’m not usually a Big fan of the non sprts autos in my sportscard packs but i have to say that Earhart Card would be a priceless hit for anybody.
What’s the Box Breakdown and when is the release date for these?

  4. Some of the Old time relics are amazing Tracy. Im only 31 years old, so I was fortunate to see Lou and Ty and Roberto play ball. I do know their play was out of this world. I always remember my grandpa telling me about games he saw and special players like some of these guys. I would love to pull one of these cards. The Ty Cobb book card is beautiful, is the right side of the book his game-used uniform relic? Maybe when you get in front of the cards, you can get some up close pictures showing the backs of them to see the wording. Either way, awesome stuff no doubt. The quality of these names, have no need of the MLb logo. Sure it would be nice, but anyone who pulled one of these would not be mad that they pulled a Ty Cobb or Lou Gehrig card.

  5. OMG…I cant say or thank you enough for the AMAZING use of the old school tags…so tired of just plain flanel…thanks Tracy!!!

  6. AMAZING! OUTSTANDING! PHENOMANAL! I’m running out of words good enough to describe how SWEET National Treasures looks! Great job Panini! I can’t wait to bust a box or two or three!

  7. That is a jaw-dropper of a gallery right there, Hackler. I don’t often drool… and I have never paid $400 for a box of…well, anything. Both my refusal to drool and unwillingness to shell-out $400 sheckles will become a thing of the past once this product is released.

  8. Mr Hackler
Some of the Bob Feller cards actaully have a photo of Joe Cronin on them. The same photo used on Joe’s cards of him.
