Rookie Here, Rookie Here: Panini America Teases 2012-13 NBA Hoops Rookie Impact

July 21, 2012

In a groundbreaking — history-making, even — development that most collectors will agree is long overdue, the top rookies from the 2011-12 NBA season will finally appear in uniform on officially licensed NBA trading cards when Panini America releases 2012-13 NBA Hoops Basketball next month.

For the record, the top rookies from the 2012-13 class also will make their trading card debuts in 2012-13 NBA Hoops, tipping off Panini America’s unprecedented Double Rookie Class program that will drive interest and excitement all season long. But since collectors have waited an unseasonably long time to see last year’s top rookies on NBA trading cards, we thought we’d begin our preview there.

What follows are some of the key singles from the 2012-12 NBA Hoops Rookie Impact insert, highlighting the likes of 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving, Kenneth Faried and 22 more of last season’s most promising rookies — in their NBA uniforms on officially licensed NBA trading cards for the first time.

Enjoy. And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional sneak peeks at the deep rookie content slated for 2012-13 NBA Hoops.

Ugly design. Stupid horizontal/vertical conflict between pics & text. No team logos on front?

Appreciate your candor, Dave. I have come to understand that aesthetic appeal typically rests in the eye of the beholder. One man’s mess is another man’s Mona Lisa. But we do sincerely appreciate the feedback.

Nice! Looking forward to finally getting some of this last years rookie cards. Are the 12-13 rookies also going to be in this insert set or will the two classes have different sets? If they are in this set, are they going to have the 12-13 instead of the 11-12 on the left hand side? Seems confusing that its Hoops 2012-13, but it won’t really say that on half of the cards.

Are these the actual cards? I understand the whole trying to come up with something new & exciting concept but I don’t know about this one guys… I can’t really describe it. I am not liking the picture stood up while the card is landscaped…. Also I don’t see a whole lot of “POP” & “WOW” from the cards…. All white background with some colored semi corners…. I think i’m getting a headache :/ I think i’m going to have to sit this one out & stick to Gold Standard…. I wish yall went all out on this seasons Hoops due to the long wait of the Rookie Cards. — Your Fan from Tulsa, OK

They looks like vertically designed cards with the photos placed sideways.

Very ugly cards. I will be sticking with limited and gold standard for now.

Great design for Hoops. I like the open court look. The horizontal layout gives us a better look of the player. Once again…way to go design team!

I can see the what the team is going for but not too sold on the outcome. The difference between the text and the image does my head in a little bit, if they could rejig them so the picture is vertical instead of horizontal they would look a lot nicer.
As always cheers for the preview!

Also and maybe this is just me but those little triangles with the stars look more like a border guide having the picture and other objects outside their boundaries makes it look a little strange.

I’m afraid I have to agree in that something just doesn’t gel about these cards and for me it’s the horizontal images.

The design has a poster/event type feel to it which I like but for me it would make more sense with vertical images that aligned with the framed triangle corners Rhys mentioned.

Is Ivan Johnson going to be in the Hoops set? I figure if he doesn’t get a rookie in Hoops then he’s not getting one…
