The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012-13 Prestige Basketball (64 Images)

September 6, 2012

It’s been way too long since hardcore hoops collectors have had the opportunity to collect a Prestige-branded basketball product. In fact, the last time one was released, John Wall and Jeremy Lin were rookies. Since then, Wall’s changed uniforms and Lin’s changed teams (twice).

But Prestige’s reputation as one of the most sought-after early season must-haves remains; and after a year away, the venerable product is poised for a bold, crisp, RC-riddled return for 2012-13.

Panini America NBA Brand Managers Keith Hower and Wesley Elliott spent a good chunk of yesterday at the company printing facility overseeing the QC check for 2012-13 Prestige Basketball, a something-for-every-collector kind of product that releases next week with a bevy of fresh designs, a massive and historic Double Rookie Class, and so much more.

Below is a revealing gallery filled with just some of the hits from that first QC case, including a nice selection of Prestigious Picks autographs, base cards, RCs, Bonus Shots parallels and tons of colorful, fancily foiled inserts. Also featured: The stunning Playmakers insert that is falling roughly one card per case.

Each hobby box of 2012-13 Prestige Basketball will deliver three autographs and one memorabilia card, but you’ll find out all about that next week. Until then, take some quality time this afternoon to enjoy this extended preview of what’s to come:

I think it’s the best design of the product. I too wonder if it will be SP.

When will the checklist be available? Are all cards numbered?

Really digging the look of the rookie cards! The base cards are quite colorful for a Prestige product known for its simple, but elegant uniqueness. And the Prestigious Picks autos look awesome! Love how the auto seem to sit in a box like they are being punished by the Panini Principle.

I gotta say, best mid-range Panini release yet. This is what I like to see! Make them on-card auto’s and I’d call it perfect.

I don’t know how you can come up with such great designs every few months! It’s insane! I have yet to buy a boring product from yall & I am very thankful for that! Keep up the great work Panini. I really like how you guys made the cards pop. There is a certain part or “feature” to each card that catches your eye that you fall in love with! Can’t wait to get all my boxes. Travy, have a quick question. The live draft that will be taking place in October. Are all the cards going to match the products? Or will the cards all be the same for whichever product you got a redeption for? Thanks!

Yes, sir. The cards will match the particular product it’s from. Thanks for the kind words. We appreciate you.

are the rookies gonna have 2 variations? i remember in the last prestige release the top players had a few. im hoping Sullinger is featured in his full celtics uni instead of summer league.

    • September 7, 2012 11:06 am

With 100 different rookies to chase this year, there will be no RC variations.

    • September 7, 2012 11:06 am

By the way, Sullinger was at the 2012 NBA Rookie Showcase. We’ll have tons of full-uni stuff coming in the near future.

Finally some good basketball cards to collect. Its been awhile since I seen such good looking cards. Hoops and Past and Present just disappointed me, but these cards look amazing Only if you could make a hockey version of prestige, that would just make the hockey gods happy

    Go Leafs Go
