Rookies from the NFL, NBA Illustrate School Spirit for Panini America Sketch Cards
The old college try. That’s exactly what some of the top young stars in the NFL and NBA delivered when Panini America officials asked them at various times throughout the last year or so to pay tribute to their university days with a series of truly unique Sketch Cards that will be unveiled later this week through the company’s 2015 Father’s Day promotion.
According to the wordsmiths at Merriam-Webster, “college try” is the term used to describe “a zealous all-out effort.” One look at many of the one-of-a-kind masterpieces that follow and you’ll understand just how zealous and all-out the game’s top young stars can be when equipped with little more than a blank cardboard canvas and a few colored Sharpies.
Emboldened by the virtues of school spirit and flat-out rookie competition, many of the game’s highest-profile youngsters — including Odell Beckham, Jr., Marcus Mariota, Jabari Parker and Marcus Smart — temporarily tapped into their creative sides to impressive results during the last two NFLPA Rookie Premieres and the 2014 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot.
The finished works of art — hand-signed on the back — will no doubt become some of the most unique and in-demand trading cards of these players’ careers. The cards have been randomly inserted into packs of Panini America’s 2015 Father’s Day set, which began shipping to participating hobby shops earlier today.
You can check out many of the cards in the following gallery, a must-see art exhibit of sorts that must be seen in order to be truly appreciated. Enjoy.
