Panini America’s 2016 Donruss Baseball is about to get a technological upgrade. And a new name. And some new players. And an entirely new product. In late July, Panini America officials will reimagine the popular Donruss Baseball designs from earlier this season with the all-Optichrome 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball that will change the way collectors look at one of the hobby’s most beloved brands.

Set to arrive on July 20, 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball deliver six different on-card-autograph designs, including Rated Rookies Signatures and the hobby-exclusive Rated Rookie Retro Signatures featuring throwback Donruss designs from 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 and 1989. Each hobby box of 2016 Donruss Optic Baseball (four cards per pack, 20 packs per box) will deliver two autographs, 10 Diamond Kings, six Holo, two Diamond Kings Holo, 20 Rated Rookies, five Rated Rookies White, four additional parallels and six inserts.

The additional highlights of this new Donruss endeavor are many and include . . .

  • A base set that features Rated Rookies (including many that didn’t appear in 2016 Donruss), Diamond Kings and the base-card designs from 2016 Donruss Baseball, including new photography for some players who’ve changed teams.
  • Look for 10 parallels, including Carolina Blue, Black, Gold, Green and Gold Vinyl.
  • Autograph sets such as Studio Signatures, Back to the Future Signatures, Significant Signatures and Optic Autographs, each with five parallels numbered to 50 or less.
  • Base Variations, The Rookies, The Prospects, Masters of the Game, Power Alley and Illusion inserts, each with five parallels numbered to 149 or less.
  • The fabled Diamond Kings insert features 30 cards (one player from each team). Also find 10 parallels including Carolina Blue, Black, Gold, Green and the Gold Vinyl 1/1.
  • The 35-card Rated Rookies subset delivers 15 players from 2016 Donruss and 20 new players.
  • Masters of the Game returns with 10 players featured in 2016 Donruss and five new players.

Wow! Really excited for this product. It looks like a hobby box is going to be a fun rip. Can’t wait to see the checklist. I’m under the assumption this is effectively replacing Prizm as the mid-tier.

Why are there no team logos on the cards? It doesn’t look good.
