The 2016-17 NBA regular season officially tips off two weeks from tomorrow. The 2016-17 NBA collecting season, however, officially  tips off two days from right now. That’s when Panini America’s fabled NBA Hoops brand arrives to celebrate a new season packed with calling-card staples such as the year’s first Rookie Cards, colorful parallels, a bevy of inserts and some downright dastardly short SPs.

On average, each hobby box of 2016-17 NBA Hoops Basketball (12 cards per pack, 24 packs per box) will deliver two autographs, 24 inserts or parallels and three Kobe 2K17 insert cards. The product also provides the opportunity to pull some of the toughest chases of the season including a Kobe Bryant Tribute card (one every other case on average), Champions (one every other case on average) and a Finals MVP card that falls roughly once every eight cases or so.

The Panini America Basketball Product Development Team spent some quality time last week packing out 2016-17 NBA Hoops Basketball. The resulting revealing gallery provides an in-depth look at the product. Enjoy the imagery and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage.

Not really an insert/parallel collector – but those front marked serial numbered cards are the best way to go for NBA Hoops. It makes it more collectable and gives more value to the product. This set looks solid. Long Live NBA HOOPS!!!!!!!!

They look fantastic! The photos seem like they might have improved which is hard to believe as they were great last year. Love the team color keyed borders. My only disappoint is that the base set is too small. Unless there is a series 2 coming or if Complete returns and is actually complete, a 300 card flagship for a 450 man league is just not good enough.

Also, I like the fact that the rookies use the same design as the base cards again. When the design is that good there’s no reason not to use it, and it gives a more unified design to the set.

The set is also a great birthday present for me, as my birthday is the 18th, I’ve told my family if they want to make me happy, Hoops is the thing to do it!

Hoops is the benchmark set for any NBA season, the cardboard response to the dawning of a new year. Some of my fondest collecting memories from my early years in the hobby center around Hoops, from the David Robinson RC on down. Thanks Tracy!
