A Must-See First Look at the Panini America 2014 Father's Day Promotion (Gallery)

If the country's finest sellers of bad ties, "World's Greatest Dad" coffee mugs and designer boxers have experienced a significant slump in the last few years (especially in the country's hottest collecting markets), well, we apologize. Indeed, since bursting onto the scene in the summer of 2012, Panini America's annual Father's Day hobby shop promotion has fundamentally altered the way kids and their moms shop for Dad on his special day.

If the country’s finest sellers of bad ties, “World’s Greatest Dad” coffee mugs and designer boxers have experienced a significant slump in the last few years (especially in the country’s hottest collecting markets), well, we apologize. Indeed, since bursting onto the scene in the summer of 2012, Panini America’s annual Father’s Day hobby shop promotion has fundamentally altered the way kids and their moms shop for Dad on his special day.
With the bold introduction two years ago of a wrapper-redemption program intended to replicate the wild success of the company’s Black Friday promotion, Panini America officials transformed Father’s Day — traditionally a sleepy Sunday afternoon in most of America’s hobby shops — into a bona fide collecting holiday. Along the way, the program has strengthened the unique family bond that collecting creates between a father and his children.

In 2014, the Panini America Father’s Day phenomenon returns. Boasting a holiday-exclusive card set featuring a plethora of unique memorabilia and autograph inclusions, this year’s offering looks to be one of the most content-rich yet. The 2014 Father’s Day set began packing out earlier this week, and if you’ve paid attention to the Panini America Twitter feed, you’ve already been treated to a few jaw-dropping sneak peeks featuring the likes of Johnny Manziel, Jose Abreu and Kobe Bryant. An example:

Today, we’re offering a few more first looks. Panini America’s 2014 Father’s Day packs will be available in participating hobby shops across the country via wrapper-redemption to collectors who make qualifying purchases of Panini America trading card products in-store. In the coming days here on The Knight’s Lance, we’ll provide everything you need to know to make the most all the promotion, including a complete list of participating dealers and, of course, more mouth-watering images. Today’s gallery — featuring just some of the autograph content and a selection of rare Green Prizm parallels from 2013 Select Football (numbered to just 15) — is merely an appetizer. Enjoy.

  1. WOW!! Can’t wait! I definitely appreciate the online component for those of us without a nearby hobby store, but do appreciate what Panini is trying to do FOR the local hobby stores. Both the Black Friday and the Father’s Day promotions are top-notch!! It is very cool to get something a little extra for your money nowadays as well.

  2. As always I am blown away. I only get to participate in this promo with no LCS nearby only because I have my family plan a vacation around this time where there is a LCS. Can’t wait to participate. Things look great guys!

  3. Looks like a lot of exclusive goodness in the gallery above, I like how many thin cards will have special characteristics like parallels and on card autographs so that packs that get searched may still yield gems. Thanks Tracy!

    1. Agreed! Can Panini put decoys in the packs? It does get pretty obvious which packs have the mem cards in them. However, the rare parallels and autos can’t really be searched, so true there.
Nicest card store I’ve been in with these promos (Fathers day, Black Friday) had the packs lined up in a 800-count box, you got random #s out of a bowl for your purchase, and you got that/those packs (each pack was labeled somehow). Like #8 you got the 8th pack or 27 you got the 27th pack-something like that. That was a lot of work by that LCS, but it helped in that you had a relatively random pack allotment.
Can’t wait!! Am traveling that day but will have to order some online if the LCS where I am going doesn’t participate.

  4. Between Black Friday & Father’s Day, there are some simply magnificent issues out there!
If only one of my 2 local (within 40 mi.) hobby shops participated!
Nevertheless, it’s a really great nod to your collector base. Great work Panini, as usual.

  5. Just wondering what Hockey boxes will be involved in the promotion and if it will be one per box or staggered according to type of box purchased ? That is if Score and Dominion were both in the promotion would you get more packs for buying the Dominion? Oh and the cards look great, looking forward to more hockey images . And thanks. For everything. I understand marketing and promotions but most companies don’t spend time and money creating free items to give away to customers especially continuing to give to customers (hockey) who may be sport loyal and not contributing in the next few years to that companies bottom line. But it has been clear since Panini’s arrival in the North American collectable card industry that they understand customer appreciation is a two-way street and I wanted to let you know that we appreciate these efforts and not just because of a personal greed but of a respect for an honest effort to make us happy.

    1. Much appreciated, David. The amount of packs offered will vary depending on the product purchased. I hope to have a complete list of participating products in the next few days. Thanks again. Your words mean a lot to all of us here at Panini America.

  6. I was very looking forward to this promotion as I love unique cards. 1st my LCS was closed on both days. Then told me it was over. Now they r selling them on their eBay site. I had $500 to spend on Panini products. But this seems like a common unfortunate practice at LCS’s. This was also done w/ Topps Archives promption, so I am not blaming Panini, but feel as of this should be better coordinated. For example, no participating LCS should be allowed to sell the singles. Easy solution. Now if I want any I have to overpay for them as opened singles.
