A Shocking Look at 10 Key Jeremy Lin Cards and their Staggering 8,100% Value Increase

Just when you think Jeremy Lin's mesmerizing, planet-gripping ascension into international superstardom can't possibly grow any richer, the kid goes and drops a game-winning 3-pointer against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night to cap a furious comeback for the New York Knicks' sixth straight victory.

Just when you think Jeremy Lin’s mesmerizing, planet-gripping ascension into international superstardom can’t possibly grow any richer, the kid goes and drops a game-winning 3-pointer against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday night to cap a furious comeback for the New York Knicks’ sixth straight victory.

And just like that, a new chapter was written on what just might be the greatest sports story of this young century. Certainly Lin is rewriting history in the trading card industry, where his every victory, shot and assist seem to send his 2010-11 Panini America basketball cards rising in value at unheard of rates.

And since we here at The Knight’s Lance never tire of dissecting Lin’s staggering impact on the collectibles market, we’ve come up with a whole new set of charts to further illustrate the madness.

We’ve taken 10 key Lin trading cards from last season and researched on eBay exactly how those cards were selling in the days before the onset of Linsanity — and in the days afterward. What we found is absolutely phenomenal: If you had purchased the following 10 cards just a few weeks ago, you could’ve had them all for $78.98. If you’re buying today, those same 10 cards would cost you $6,405.77.

That’s an overall increase of more than 8,100 percent.

Put another way: If Blake Griffin’s 2009-10 National Treasures RC — currently valued by Beckett Media at $3,500 — enjoyed the same level of appreciation, it would now be worth roughly $283,500.

Now, to the charts . . .

  1. I have 5 autos of his that I wasn’t too happy about getting last year, now I’m just really glad I held onto them. I’m just waiting for the right time to sell them as Lin just keeps getting hotter and hotter. I even have a Rookies and Stars Blue RC /25 that is now going for $150 – $200. Crazy little world we live in, huh!!! It’s kind of what makes card collecting so great!!!

    1. If you feel good about their chances Sunday against the Mavs, then sell immediately after that game. If you think the Mavs might beat them, I say sell JUST before the game.

  2. It is a little nuts that Lin rookies are selling for more then John Wall rookies… at least to me anyway. I wonder what Lin would have to do long term to justify these prices ya know? I would want to ask people who are paying a premium for these now what they expect his career to look like. Would they say HOFer, perennial All-Star etc? They might actually… dunno.

It’s a great story and I’m rooting for the dude. Nice to the Knicks good again too…

  3. Saw this on Sports Center yesterday…by the way great way to have the word spread on Panini basketball products….its amazing and staggering and shocking. Wished I had one of his rookies kicking around.

  4. Last season I bought a box of prestige, looking for wall rc, which I pulled, also pulled a Lin 210 sp rookie as well, of course at the time I had no idea who he was so he set in my junk binder for almost a year! damn I’m glad I didn’t sell that binder at the flea market!
