Absolutely Floored: Panini America Offers a New Glimpse Inside the Production Facility

It never, ever, ever gets old. Ever. I could walk the Panini America printing facility floor every day for the rest of my career and likely not grow tired of its bountiful sights and its tangible buzz. In fact, I had the distinct pleasure of doing that again yesterday, primarily to document the production of two truly spectacular memorabilia cards. (We'll have more on that later.)

(We’ll have more on that later.)

But in between videoing the different stages of production, I did my best to take in everything else that was going on around me, too . . . like 2013 Prestige Football . . . and 2013 USA Baseball Champions . . . and 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball . . . and 2012-13 Rookie Anthology Hockey . . . and 2012-13 Gold Standard Basketball . . . and 2012-13 Signatures Basketball . . . 2012-13 Elite Series Basketball . . . and 2012-13 Crusade Basketball . . .

It was another wonderment-filled whirlwind of activity that had me rubber-necking at something new seemingly every few steps. Here’s hoping the following gallery does a good job of showing you what I saw yesterday. A few thoughts before you get started:

  • The Black Gold Prime Memorabilia cards coming in 2012-13 Gold Standard Basketball are phenomenal
  • One of the coolest-looking designs I saw yesterday was the Class Masters insert coming to 2012-13 Elite Series Basketball
  • The base design for 2013 Prestige Football is colorful, bold and shiny — all good things
  • Man, that’s a lot of 2012-13 Rookie Anthology and 2013 USA Baseball Champions boxes

Now, to the gallery . . .

  1. Exciting to see pics from all these releases at once. The Black Gold Prime Memorabilia cards are crazy. You can go ahead and send me one of those uncut sheets if you want. I can’t afford to chase too many of them, but will hope to get one of the Larry Johnson cards for my PC.

I may be wrong, but this looks like the first official mention of 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball. The pics look great, I can only imagine how nice they’ll look when the patches and autos are added.

  2. did I see a Rasheed Wallace gold standard base?
Any info if sheed is in any of the patch or bullion brand set?

  3. MAN, those Gamer inserts look GREAT!!!!!! Thanks for the sneak peek… I just collect football but those Gold Standard patches look nice enough for me to jump back into basketball. Great stuff.

PS: bring Gold Standard back to Football.

  4. Wow really nice. Thanks for the pictures!
If i remember correctly i heard one of the unwrapped video, or read somewhere, i am not sure, that Panini America has a Pete Maravich game worn jersey what is going to appear in one of your product. Was it decided in which product or can we know a little more about it?

  5. Love this kind of stuff for sure. It would be awesome to see a start to finish video like you guys put up awhile back with the whole process of making the Ryan Kesler signed stick and tape cards. I really enjoyed that, seeing another one of those maybe from another sport would be amazing as well! And those Black Gold patches are just SICK!

  6. This was incredible. From seeing all the uncut sheets to seeing how amazing Black Gold looks to seeing how each player has their own slot in the first few photos.

By the way: I, like many collectors, seem to like having more autos in boxes than mem cards. But if the memorabilia cards keep looking like the booklets you’ve been doing & these Black Gold ones, I’d loving getting them!

  7. Yo guys should do a redemption for an framed uncut sheet of patch cards with the patches in them that would be awesome!

  8. Now I’m itching to buy some gold standard! It would be cool to see some production pics of other type of cards.. glass, wood, etc. And it would be cooler if Panini had a redemption for a factory/headquarter tour… and allowed the winner to pack their own box of NT : )

  9. Floored indeed. Astounding presentation, Tracy. Thank you very much for the preview. I can’t wait for the Maravich mem card to come out. Is there any chance to see one day a Bob McAdoo game used card ? Never been one before. Only autographs.
