One of the most interesting — but perhaps less-heralded — aspects of Panini America’s 2017 Gold Standard Football is the inclusion of veteran base-set Team and Photo Variations that have all of the necessary ingredients to create a feeding frenzy for the rarest versions among impacted player collectors. This Gold Standard ritual actually began with the inaugural Gold Standard Basketball in 2010-11. It finally arrived in football with last week's 2017 Gold Standard Football release.

The featured Team Variation players include Brett Favre, Warren Moon, Kevin Greene, Jerry Rice, Eric Dickerson, Mike Ditka and more. The Photo Variations include Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton, Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith and more. More than just providing compelling — and sometimes downright devilish — chases for player and set collectors, the Gold Standard Team Variations are something of a delightful nomad’s land; a one-stop photographic summation of the featured players’ NFL (or collegiate) careers.
We’ve provided a complete checklist of both variations below. A few things to note about these variations:
- All Photo Variations feature players in a dark jersey (as compared to their regular base card featuring a light-colored jersey) and each is limited to just 10 copies.
- The quantity of each Team Variation is tied to the featured player’s tenure with a particular team. The shorter his career in one place, the rarer that team’s variation.
The following Team Variations are limited to 10 copies or less (with some 1/1s):

So are they physically numbered to 79 but there are only 10?
Correct.
I’d love to have a Dickerson card in a SMU uniform. I’ll definitely be scouring eBay for that.
Very nice added value here, I hope everyone is checking their base carefully. Thanks Tracy!
Will the quantities of the team variations be released?
Thanks for your sharing! I can’t wait to see. Their teamwork was invariably good.
