Between the Sheets: Panini America Offers Uncut Looks at 2012-13 Select, Marquee

Panini America Select Marquee Basketball Sheets (40)

By now, it likely goes without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway: Working at Panini America provides a seemingly never-ending stream of fascinating sights, sounds and developments. One day it’s Ty Cobb bat knobs and game-worn Robert Griffin III jerseys. The next, it’s Gordie Howe autographs and Kobe Bryant game-worn shoes.

But on many days, including today, some of the coolest spectacles aren’t pieces of sweat-soaked memorabilia or hand-scrawled history. Instead, they’re massive pieces of colorful cardboard delivered fresh from the printer, uncut sheets filled with varying technologies that are used to illustrate the look and feel of upcoming releases.

Today, that meant we were treated to some flat-out filthy first looks 2012-13 Select Basketball (and its take on Panini America’s Prizm technology) and 2012-13 Marquee Basketball (featuring the mesmerizing “Swirlorama” finish). And as coincidence would have it, we also got a peek at finished (but as yet unsigned) Select cards of Bryant and Kevin Durant.

Clearly these technologies are better seen than explained, so we present the following gallery as our show-and-tell project for the day. Enjoy, and please let us know your thoughts.
