Cards on Fire: Your First Look at Some of the Just-Redeemed Passing the Torch Autos

Passing the Torch Autographs: Four simple words. Two legendary players. One of the most beloved insert sets in trading card history.

Since 1997, the venerable dual-signed insert set has absolutely mesmerized Donruss Elite collectors with some of the most coveted and important football cards ever made.

But when 2011 Donruss Elite Football hit the market in June, many of the cards in this year’s Passing the Torch Autographs insert set were packed out as redemptions while Panini America officials anxiously awaited the return of the signatures that would make the cards complete.

On Friday, the Acquisitions department turned over many of the completed cards to Customer Service, which in turn began sending those cards out to patient collectors — but not before I could grab a few to photograph for the following gallery.

  1. Rashard Mendenhall with a big RM? In my opinion for what Panini pays these guys at least you could get a signature not an Initials.

  2. I think it’s really interesting that if you look at Harris/Mendenhall, you see the drastic differences in penmanship. Tho older players always have a better signature. Awesome cards.

  3. Very sweet!! Love the Tebow/Elway one….even though i think Elway much rather have Orton Start over Tebow.
