Coming in 2014 National Treasures Football: Malcolm Butler’s First NFL Rookie Card

Unheralded and undrafted, New England Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler authored one of the greatest defensive plays in Super Bowl history Sunday night when he picked off Russell Wilson's potential game-winning pass at the goal line in the dying seconds of Super Bowl XLIX. The stunning interception delivered New England's fourth Super Bowl title in franchise history -- and Butler immediately from relative obscurity.

Unheralded and undrafted, New England Patriots rookie Malcolm Butler authored one of the greatest defensive plays in Super Bowl history Sunday night when he picked off Russell Wilson’s potential game-winning pass at the goal line in the dying seconds of Super Bowl XLIX. The stunning interception delivered New England’s fourth Super Bowl title in franchise history — and Butler immediately from relative obscurity.

Just like that, the seemingly soft-spoken, hard-charging cornerback from West Alabama was a Super Bowl hero talking to NBC Sunday Night Football sideline reporter Michele Tafoya with confetti — and tears — streaming down. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady plans to give Butler the Chevrolet truck he won for being named Super Bowl XLIX MVP. Most everyone else (with the exception of those in the Pacific Northwest) simply wants to give Butler props.

Panini America, however, plans to give Butler something he’s never had: An NFL Rookie Card. In the hours following Super Bowl XLIX, Panini America Product Development officials reworked the checklist for 2014 National Treasures Football — the company’s final release of the 2014 NFL product season — to make room for Butler. The player who’s now No. 1 in the hearts of most Patriots fans will be No. 273 on the National Treasures checklist.

Fittingly, Butler’s only NFL Rookie Card will be housed in National Treasures, annually one of the most anticipated, valuable and successful products in the football marketplace. We’ve provided a sneak peek of the card front above. You can check out the back of the card below.

Earlier today, Panini America announced that Butler will also be included in the company’s 2014 Select Football Award Selections interactive redemption program as part of the New England Patriots team set.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage of the New England Patriots’ thrilling 28-24 Super Bowl XLIX triumph.

      1. Can we get some Aaron Colvin cards? Topps put him in Bowman and Chrome. I would love to see him get some love considering he came of the IR as a rookie for the last few weeks of the season and became one of the better ranked corners in the league for those weeks.

  1. Awesome! Looked up Butler on eBay after the Super Bowl and was disappointed that he did not have any cards. Will definitely be buying this one!

  2. Any idea if the 2012 NT redemptions will be fulfilled? I have M.Leshore redemption that has been pending for years now. This is a nice write up on Butler he saved the day!

  3. He is the reason why I had to listen to family members and friends rag on me about their Patriots winning. Don’t think I need this card for my PC lol

  4. As if NT wasn’t going to be loaded enough, the chase for his base rookie will rival many other firsts we’ve seen over the years in this premier product. Thanks Tracy!
