Dallas Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray Voted Week 7 Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week

October 28, 2011

Voters on NFL.com have made their choice.  Running back DeMarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys is the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for games played on October 23-24, the NFL announced today.

Murray ran 25 times for 253 yards and one touchdown in the Cowboys’ 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams. His total yardage broke the franchise single-game rushing record, and his 10.1 yards-per-carry were the highest of any back with over 10 carries on the weekend.

Murray was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com/rookies.  The other finalists were running back Mark Ingram of the New Orleans Saints, linebacker Von Miller of the Denver Broncos, quarterback Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers and quarterback Christian Ponder of the Minnesota Vikings.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com/rookies throughout the month of January.  The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.

This is Pepsi’s tenth year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the tenth year that Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.
