2013 Pepsi NEXT NFL Rookie of the Week 1 Winner

Voters on have made their choice. Kicker Caleb Sturgis of the Miami Dolphins is the Week 1 2013 Pepsi NEXT NFL Rookie of the Week for games played September 5-9, the NFL announced today. Sturgis was a perfect 3-for-3 on field goals, including a long of 49 yards, and also added two PATs during the Dolphins’ 23-10 defeat of the Cleveland Browns.

Sturgis was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on The other finalists were quarterback Geno Smith of the New York Jets, quarterback E.J. Manuel of the Buffalo Bills, wide receiver Kenny Stills of the New Orleans Saints and safety Eric Reid of the San Francisco 49ers.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NEXT NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on throughout the month of January. The Pepsi NEXT NFL Rookie of the Year will be announced at the third annual NFL Honors awards show in New York City on on Saturday, February 2, the night before Super Bowl XLVIII.

In conjunction with the 2013 Pepsi NEXT NFL Rookie of the Week promotion, Panini America produces virtual trading cards of each week’s five nominees and a virtual card for each week’s winner.
