The time for sneak-peek galleries and additional pre-release hype is over. This time tomorrow, Panini America’s 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball will be live in hobby shops across North America and on the National Sports Collectors Convention show floor. Easily one of the most celebrated and anticipated sports card releases of the year, National Treasures returns to the court after almost two years away intent on making up for lost time.

To that end, the product delivers four autographs, three memorabilia cards and at least one (but usually two) Printing Plate 1/1s. Just minutes ago, we grabbed the first box we saw and opened it up while holding our breath and hanging on the edge of our seat. What follows is a card-by-card thrill ride through that box. Stick around after the gallery for the complete 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball checklist.

Enjoy.

  1. i like what im seeing
love the plates and love the patches
is it one patch per box? true value for collectors
than plain jersey… and i see a curry auto
so hopefully a semi-star auto per box to ease
the pain of not getting your class a autos
    (kobe/KD/kyrie etc)

is it panini national treasures or playoff national
    treasures?

    thanks for the preview..

  2. IM GOING TO FAINT!
    So many Mojos!
I cant wait to get my hands on these and open them up!
    Thanks for the preview tracy!
    Those plates look so awesome!
I cant wait to fill my collection with them!

  3. Really cool printing plate of Kobe!

Sweet mem pieces as well! Those you can def call prime!

  4. Is there a checklist of the plates inserted? I don’t believe that Hall of Fame set cards were included in the original list of plates, just wondering what other new additions there may be.

  5. Awesome looking cards! Why do some of them say “Panini National Treasures” while others say “Playoff National Treasures”?

  6. Nice, really nice! Will you make an Unwrapped video about National Treasure? Are you planning some kind of a contest where you give away a few box? It would be nice.

  7. Nice break! Would love to see video of it!
    Enjoy the Nationals!
    Love The Beal auto!
    Kobe Printing Plate! Nice!
Thanks For not pulling a Logoman!
    Take care and God Bless!

  8. Tracy I could not help but notice that the box states that there are nine card included with every box while the sale sheet stated ten on the first page. Should we still expect ten cards as was advertised or is nine now the standard? I only ask because you have people out there who are participating in hit drafts with 30 spots based on the sales solicitation who may now not get a card if there are only nine cards in some boxes.

  9. Very cool looking cards. Will be a fun break for those who can afford to pay $62.50 per card! As others noted, why are there cards that say Panini and others that say Playoff – using the cards you produced for 2011/12 that didn’t get packed out, add a couple of plates and call it 2012/13?

  10. I’ll be honest. I was extremely anxious for this year’s NT, but after seeing this box break, I have to admit that I’m less excited about the product. I’m still excited, but maybe 35% less excited now.

I’ve never been a printing plate fan, so the fact that a printing plate counts as one of the originally mentioned ‘ten cards per box’ is a bit disappointing. But this is just me, since I’m more a fan of a finished/completed product.

Seems like getting the recent R.O.Y, Damian Lillard, to participate with signings have been difficult. I was really looking forward to his RPA in this year’s NT, but it seems like he’s falling into the base/common category again (Select, Prizm, etc). Too bad there wasn’t at least a redemption card made for this to make his RPA available.

I do absolutely love the designs for this year’s NT, and the cards, patch pieces, etc look amazing! *Had to leave at least one positive comment.

Still, great job and still looking forward to NT tomorrow.

  11. Printing plates is alright to me if they were only from the actual product.a must for plates is that they have to be framed.I mean its such an expensive product then the plates should atleast look cool.

After going through the checklist and not noticing any Rasheed Wallace , iam a bit disappointed.I really thought he would have a logoman or tagmen, since you made a few patch cards in other products already.

the cards I like the most are the colossal patches and the logoman without autos.

  12. I simply can’t afford National Treasures.
However, were I willing to endure the legal pettiness that would arise from non-payment of my mortgage and the accompanying “You bought WHAT?!?” from my lovely wife (and Wells-Fargo)? I’d purchase the product in a heart-beat! Those cards are off the chain…2 Printing Plates! Assessing a box break is a very subjective endeavor given the nature of fandom, but the quality and breakdown of this NT box is hard to knock.

    Beautiful stuff, Panini.

      1. LOL They just don’t understand our priorities, Hackler.
I realize that I need not miss a mortgage payment, I can sell an organ instead! Any idea how much blood I can safely sell in a day?

  13. I dont know if its just me but there seems like there has been a slew of NBA products by Panini. Dont get me wrong, its not a bad thing but I feel like its a bit much in a short span of time.

  14. I thought it will be released today, but i just saw 12/13NT cards on ebay already(it is 11.25CET now = 5:25am US eastern time). Was it released earlier?

  15. Looks like a triumphant return for NT based on this box, gregmalloy addressed the one question I had above about the Kobe anthology series. I think that’s a good move as it will put a premium on those specific cards found in NT on the secondary market for those collectors who have been chasing the set this year. Excellent box overall. Thanks Tracy!

  16. Only one base per pack! This will make it tough for those set builders.

Love the gallery. Can’t wait to see some youtube breaks and see them pulled.

  17. I just watched a couple of box breaks…. fantastic job Panini! Those cards really deserve the name National Treasure!

  18. Seeing this make me remember the box I got to open with you at the National two years ago. Maybe I can pick one up and swing by your booth to open it with you again this year. Keep up the fantastic work.

  19. Hey Tracy!

Just opened to boxes, and pulled a monster hit, Draymond Green True RC 1/1 Logoman Auto, was so high on adrenaline! But I do have a question, why weren’t there any Moe Harkless RPAs? He was my side PC, and kind of disappointed he didn’t have one. And any reason why some of the patches for RPAs don’t match the current jerseys? I know some are because they were recently traded, but the Nikola Vucevic RPA has a Sixers patch with him in his Magic uniform, but both Preferred & GS had Magic patches.. Thanks again Tracy!

  20. Seriously, using sticker autos on.such a high end product is disappointing. Less autos but on card even if it meant a lot of redemptions is better

  21. Tracy I gotta be honest, i went in on a case this year and while I definitely enjoyed the break, there were just too many produced this year. RPAs /199 dumb down the value of the product. If NT is really Panini’s top dog, then you can’t have RPAs #d to less than Preferred! Why not just buy Preferred or GS at that point? Also if you pull a dual logoman and it isn’t a true 1/1, then something is wrong. There should not be 3 Rose/Pippen duals. If this trend continues next year, these buyers aren’t stupid, price point will drop.. Go back to /99 next year and true 1/1s unless u want a subset like colossal logoman as in the past.
