The short work week created by the Labor Day holiday simply means that we hit the ground sprinting today at Panini America instead of easing into the work week. But since the furious beginning to this four-day week meant we got to bust three early boxes of 2012-13 Innovation Basketball, well, you won't get a complaint from us.

The short work week created by the Labor Day holiday simply means that we hit the ground sprinting today at Panini America instead of easing into the work week. But since the furious beginning to this four-day week meant we got to bust three early boxes of 2012-13 Innovation Basketball, well, you won’t get a complaint from us.

2012-13 Innovation Basketball releases to the hobby tomorrow packing an abundance of cool twists that includes Stained Glass inserts, View and Rookie View acetate cards and the unique, game-dated Stat Line Jerseys game-worn memorabilia insert. We’re happy to report that we uncovered a little bit of all of that in the following three-box Teaser Gallery.

Each eight-card box of 2012-13 Innovation Basketball will deliver two autographs, one memorabilia card. Heck, as you’ll see below, even Innovation’s box is somewhat innovative. Take a look for yourself as we take you card-by-card through three boxes and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage.

    1. tracy, 3 questions.. when is the next round of IMMACULATE preview ? Is it on track for October release and three, preview for FLAWLESS 🙂

  1. THANK GOD!!! More E’Twan Moore autos, we were lacking on the nearly 3,500 already out there for sale for $1.50 each. Honestly, I just don’t understand why we have to have 21 different NBA products each year, all giving you the same thing, sticker rookie autos of guys who play 4 minutes per game. Why not do 8-10 more focused products with better quality each year, better autos, and more scarcity

    1. I don’t know, Jim. The Nicholson Gold Auto out of 25 is pretty nice; and the product guys just informed me that the Derrick Rose All-Star card is super-tough. They didn’t pull any in their two-case QC. I’m also partial to the cool basketball memorabilia cards.

    2. From a rip and flip mentality, yes, it was a brutal break…but the basketball market is unpredictable. Remember when everyone complained about hitting Jeremy Lin autos?

      1. Travis, I think the market can be unpredictable and there certainly are cases where a “sleeper” rookie will get discovered but overall, the bulk of the rookies in this “12-13 huge historic double rookie class” will languish in bargain bins around the world, unable to garner even the starting $0.99 opening bid on line. We’re talkin’ 100 auto’d RCs per product and how many products will there be when the dust of the 2012-13 season settles? (Actually it ended a couple of months ago yet there are still three, count ’em three, more 12-13 products to be released.) I think if there were only 30 or 35.rookie players selected for each season, these products would feel different.

Imagine how much more limited the production run of National Treasures could have been with only 60 auto’d RCs to accomodate. As it stands now, there had to be enough cases made to accomodate 100 auto’d RCs (in their assorted print runs), averaging only about one per box. So, on top of having enough boxes to feature these many, many rookie autos, you now have to also deliver 3 other autos per box, to hit the “4 autos per box” quota. Now the selection of autos has to broaden into the dual auto combos that make no sense and present little or no value in the hobby (Ivan Johnson & Royce White, Bernard James & Kyle Singler)……and on and on. It’s a vicious cycle.

I like a big hit as well as the next guy but because I bust a lot of NBA wax, I get tired of box after box that feature E’Twaun Moore sticker autos (I feel your pain, Seth) on top of Quincy Acy on top of Robert Sacre on top of Jan Vesely on top of Jon Leuer on top of…..well, you get the picture.

In any case, I look forward to next season when there will be RCs from only one incoming class and hopefully there won’t be 50.

And Tracy, I stand corrected on the Rose insert. Who knew? However, that Andrew Nicholson gold auto, while being “pretty nice”, problaby won’t outsell the Kyrie jersey.

  2. Will the idea of “Stat Line” be used in/across all other upcoming products from now on? I certainly hope so, as it will probably add more collectible value to the game-used material cards. I personally wish that every single game-used material card has this “Stat Line” idea applied to.

  3. I noticed Damian Lillard is on the Fine Print Autograph checklist. Does that mean he has an autograph in Innovation? How is that possible since he has an exclusive deal with Leaf for another year or so.

  4. I just saw the checklist. Do you Lillard autos in this product? Why hasn’t more been said about this? This is a huge surprise. Too bad NT is already out.
