Panini America, the global leader in licensed sports and entertainment collectibles, today announced that this week’s release of 2014 Score Football, the first NFL– and NFLPA-licensed trading card product of the 2014 season, will include the debut of the company’s groundbreaking Panini Rewards program. More than two years in the making, the in-pack Panini Rewards program – available as both a smartphone app and a web platform – will allow fans and collectors the ability to earn points that can be used to acquire autographed and memorabilia trading cards featuring the players and teams of their choice, as well as unique collector experiences in the future.
Panini America officials developed the Panini Rewards Platform with a focus on developing a system that delivered more value to collectors by giving them the ability to choose autograph trading cards and other items through an established point value system tied to Panini Rewards. The Panini Rewards Platform gives collectors the ability to earn points by scanning randomly inserted Rewards cards with their mobile devices. The Panini Rewards program will debut in other sports beginning with 2014-15 NBA Hoops Basketball (September) and 2015 Donruss Baseball (February 2015).

Panini Rewards points cards are randomly inserted into packs of 2014 Score Football; collectors can use their Panini Rewards smartphone app to scan the QR code on those cards to claim the points; collectors can also manually enter their points cards on the Panini Rewards website. Collectors can exchange their points immediately for any available single cards in the Panini Rewards inventory, or accumulate points to earn higher-value cards, other collectibles and unique Panini experiences.
The Panini Rewards points never expire and collectors will be able to view every available Panini Rewards card immediately using the Panini Rewards smart phone app or on the Panini Rewards Platform website.
“The Panini Rewards Program is a truly revolutionary development for the entire trading card industry and will offer us the chance to effectively eliminate and further reduce redemption cards from our products, replacing them with Panini Rewards Points that collectors can use to acquire any available card immediately,” said Panini America CEO Mark Warsop. “This program has been in development for more than two years and we are excited to finally share it with collectors.”
Other highlights of the program include:

  • Upon a product’s launch, collectors will have immediate access to Panini America’s available single-card inventory directly from their mobile devices.
  • The ability for collectors to choose their own replacements from the Panini Rewards Platform.
  • The Panini Rewards Platform will be accessible via both web- and app-based applications for iOS and Android devices.
  • Panini America officials worked with Kodak to implement a high-resolution image-capture solution designed to recreate the experience for collectors to view memorabilia and autograph cards for every available card on the Panini Rewards Platform.

Future Rewards Platform enhancements will give collectors the ability to self-authenticate their trading cards to ensure authenticity and eliminate issues related to potential counterfeit trading cards on the secondary market.
The Panini Rewards app and website are both live now. Tomorrow, right here on The Knight’s Lance, we’ll have a comprehensive FAQ post that addresses many of the collector questions that have surfaced since Panini America officials first announced the Panini Rewards program during the 2014 Industry Summit in March.

  1. Will outstanding redemption from previous years be able to be converted to the new points system too?

  2. I hope you guys at Panini continue working hard to pack-out as many autos/relics as possible because I love the surprise of not knowing who’s autos and/or relics are in the boxes I open.
It would stink to have a high percentage of auto/relics per box be a rewards card and have to ruin the surprise by figuring out from your list which athlete I’d want to redeem those points for.

  3. Sorry not a big fan of this, this will be great for the case breakers but the ones that can only afford the 1 or 2 boxes a month not so good .
and there are a lot of other question, and final I not a big fan of take what we have or wait, and also do the points flex as the market does, for cards, I ask this because I have some redemption that are 1 to 2 years I have be waiting on. Of course the value has gone down because its not know if the cards will be made or when they will be made. I hope u see my point. and again there’s the you don’t have any cards I collect so I’m back to waiting. NOT A FAN

    1. Charles this is good for all Collectors – because you now have the option of a player(s) and or teams you prefer. Panini Rewards are just that – Rewards. It is not designed to replace hits in products.

  4. Any way to filter out all the (mainly solid color) memorabilia cards and see just the autographs? Don’t see much more than Americana Heroes and Legends Autos. I’m cautiously optimistic about this program, but was expecting more at the launch. Give me a reason to want to bust all that Score Football…

  5. Great program! Is there anyway to convert redemptions still not filled in over a year to rewards points? Would be a great way to “cleanup” unfilled redemptions and to get the consumer a card they want and no longer has to wait for players to do so

  6. I’m just a little confused on the availability of the cards that the points are used for, are they similar to redemptions, but now the collector can choose who the points are redeemed for? And what’s stopping everyone from just usin the points one certain star rookies? Unless it not like the current redemption program now, where ur card indicates what kind and who you get. Now when I get say 500 points I’m clearly just gonna select they star rookies. I’m confused if you could explain that a little more, thanks!

  7. Nice. I just wonder. Is the realy high valued redemtion chanses gone now? I mean, getting a super rare Manning or Lebron “redemtion” in a pack is that gone for good? or will there be super rare super bonus point cards? keep up the great work!

  8. Wow, cant wait to see some of these rewards cards! Whats the pack ratio going to be, like 2-4 per box? Very glad you’re going to be doing the rewards programs. Hope you can implement other ways to earn points with like special twitter/facebook codes or like how you do the “find the knight’s lance” on here.

  9. So there must be one day with a box full of reward point cards and zero autos, just like gambling. I’d rather pulling a Kobe auto redemption than a 50000 reward card.

  10. Got my first rewards points card from my box of Prestige today and entered it on the site. Pretty nice selection, even for a 150 point card! Nice to be able to choose. Great stuff!!

  11. I think the program has been fantastic so far-I was able to get a few unique cards from the “vaults” of Panini. Question, though: after the initial rollout of about 1500 or so cards, it seems that not many new cards have been added. Is there a plan to periodically add more than just a few cards here or there?

  12. Follow up questions-If cards have been sitting on there a while “unclaimed” is there any plans to reduce their point value? Any thoughts of “special sales” for those cards?

  13. I am very disappointed today, I was very excited to redeem a card via rewards but when i checked out the cards I found out that I have to pay for shipping and I don’t have a credit card. Now my 1500 points is useless. 🙁

  14. Is there a list of products somewhere on this site where name all the brands you will be inserting these cards? Will they just be in all Panini card products released after Score 2014 or only specially marked ones?

    1. They’re not in every product. The goal is to not have to use them at all. But any product where we don’t have the autographs of certain players back in time, for packout, we will typically insert Panini Rewards cards.

  15. How do I redeem my card. Need to find somewhere to type in letters to get my card coming to me. Thanks a bunch for your time. Rob

  16. I bought a box of 2017-18 Essentials Basketball cards and got a small blue sticker in the box with the following printed on it “1 AT”. I am not sure what it is or what it is for.
