Golden Glimpses: Panini America Sneaks a Peek at 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball

With all of its precious-metal might, 2010-11 Gold Standard Basketball erupted onto the trading card landscape last season with a shining display of gilded guile that featured, among other things, 14kt gold trading cards, trading cards embedded with 14kt gold discs and an assortment of prime memorabilia and superstar signatures that sparkles still today.

But in July, 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball will attempt to follow last season’s successful debut while raising the (gold) bar in the process.

Every 10-card pack of 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball will deliver one 2011-12 Draft Class Redemption Autograph, two additional autographs and two memorabilia cards. The product also will deliver Draft Class Redemption cards for members of the 2012-13 class.
Returning and revamped for a new season are the popular Solid Gold 14kt gold trading cards and Gold Rush, which has been redesigned to showcase the embedded 14kt gold disc in every card.
Other highlights of 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball include . . .

  • The Greatest Graphs insert featuring signatures from members of the NBA’s legendary 50 Greatest Players
  • The stunning 14k Memorabilia Prime insert honoring members of the NBA’s 14,000-point club with a sizable swatch of prime game-worn memorabilia; there’s also a rare 24k Memorabilia Prime parallel
  • The new Bullion Brand Logos game-worn memorabilia insert embedded with huge swatches of game-worn jersey tags
  • A fresh base-card design and the superstar-laden Superscribe autograph insert

We’ll have additional coverage of 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball as it becomes available right here at The Knight’s Lance. But until then, enjoy these first golden glimpses . . .

  1. I saw some of this stuff for sale at my local card show this weekend from last year’s release and I can say it sure is maintaining it’s value. The design, the quality of the content and now with the very limited autographs of some impact rookies added in I can’t see this product as anything less than a slam dunk! (Tip your waitress, try the veal, I’ll be here all week). Thanks Tracy!

  2. Wow that durant tag is very nice! Loving the return of the 14K inserts, have managed to track down and buy three of Last years Ray Allen ones ( http://bit.ly/JbAPSk ) they are pretty deep in collections now I think. The team has done a great job on making the product fresh for this years release looking at those pics!

  3. whoa i already love the Tag cards 😮
i hope that Sheed is in there, that would be my dream Card!

  4. So if the rookie redemption are based on when they were drafted, how are you handling undrafted guys, like Ivan johnson?

  5. Is the 2012-13 draft class redemptions for autograph cards or base rookie cards? Also is that Durant laundry tag signed by him?
I’m sure everyone will be happy to see NO MORE ENCASED autos.
    Thanks for listening!

  6. These actually look really nice – and I’m always fond of tags 😉
The only worry is the redemptions… you guys aren’t exactly prompt at turning most of those around. The only one I’ve ever received in a timely fashion was when you were brand new. So with redemptions upon redemptions, this could be a catastrophe. Definitely good looking mockups though.

    1. lol, I love the way you put that referring to you know who. 🙂 There may even be less (though I don’t know why there would need to be). I think that’s why they chose their words carefully and said “from members OF the” instead of “from the members OF”, makes a huge difference. 🙂

  7. I went nuts for this product last year!!! Something tells me im gonna catch GOLDFEVER
    again this summer!!! Lol

  8. I cant wait for GOLD STANDARD Basketball!!!!! As you know Tracy this is my favorite product along with National Treasures of course!!!! Thanks for the pics and tell the design team they did a great job with what ive seen so far!

  9. you guys need to work on getting the MLB contract this would give triple threads a good run for it’s money

  10. I can’t wait for this. I’m still trying to finish an OKC set. Almost there though. Now I have to start all over again!!! Yes Panini, you can have all my money. I’ll just sign the back of my paycheck and send it in…

    1. I loved Gold Standard Basketball because they had the Gold Standard Signatures set with over 200 stars and legends from the NBA!! They should do the same for Football instead of having mostly rookies for autos i think this would attract more collectors that love variety!!!

  11. I definitely have to say I love the look of that base Lin. Very classy and kind of roman-esque. Oh how I wish I could afford these or be fortunate enough to win a contest where they gave away a box. 😉
