Golden Moment: Gawking at One Brilliant Pallet of 2010-11 Gold Standard Basketball

While at the Panini America printing facility last week for the 2010-11 National Treasures Basketball pre-packout check, I ventured out into the warehouse area to fetch more cards for inspection. But before I could take the three steps required to reach the National Treasures stash, I was stopped dead in my tracks by a shimmering spectacle to my immediate right.

As one of the top vote-getters in our Knight’s Lance Readers Choice Weekend poll, this story is being brought to you by . . . well . . . you. Stay tuned throughout the weekend for the additional content that you voted for, including your top two choices: More first looks at 2010-11 National Treasures Basketball and a gallery of some of our redemption prizes for the 2011 National Sports Collectors Convention.

To be sure, there’s nothing quite as arresting as the bold, brilliant beam of 2010-11 Gold Standard Basketball being palletized. Frankly, the sight left me without words. Luckily, I had my trusty iPhone camera to tell the story for me.

If the packaging looks this good, just imagine how captivating the cards inside must be. Beginning Wednesday, we’ll all start finding out.

  1. I just saw some chinese collectors has busted some boxes and cases… It looks they got products much earlier than us…

  2. I wish my local joke of a hobby store would get some. Only got two boxes of dung this week. I guess I am gonna have to buy on the web in order to get any of Panini’s high end stuff Tracy. This Gold Standard looks amazing.

  3. It has already got positive feedback around International market. Shining and exquisite design, and autos are not crappy at all. I believe the inserts are also polular in this products..Cannot wait anymore!!

  4. Too bad Kobe Bryant has sticker autos in this product

    1. While it’s not ideal, we felt it better to include his live autographs in the product as opposed to redemption cards. Kobe does have on-card autographs in Gold Standard, too. If those are your cards, great pulls, man.

  5. Tracy, any word on what the other golden ticket prizes are? I only know abt the face-to-face w/ Kobe.

    1. The 14-karat gold cards from the Solid Gold insert are redemptions. The Gold Rush inserts — with the smaller pieces of real gold embedded into the card — are live in pack.
