Hoops Dreams: Exploring Some Staggering Early Sales from 2012-13 NBA Hoops

So, what did a 2011-12 NBA collecting season devoid of rookie autographs do to the demand for those cards in the first 2012-13 product of the season? While that's more of a rhetorical question at this point, we're glad we asked.

So, what did a 2011-12 NBA collecting season devoid of rookie autographs do to the demand for those cards in the first 2012-13 product of the season? While that’s more of a rhetorical question at this point, we’re glad we asked.

The fact of the matter is that the first autographs of 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving and 2012 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis from Panini America’s 2012-13 NBA Hoops release have headlined a litany of staggering secondary-market sales recently. Staggering as in . . . $379 for an autographed version of Irving’s Rookie Impact insert . . . or $365 for an autographed version of his Rookie Card . . . or $299.95 for a redemption card good for Davis’ Autographed Rookie parallel.

The list goes on and on. In addition to the aforementioned $365, other copies of Irving’s autographed RC parallel have sold for $352, $312 and $300, respectively. And several of Davis’ autographed RC parallel redemptions have changed hands for between $162 and $200; meanwhile a redemption card for one of Davis’ Draft Night autographed parallels sold for $238.

You can check out some of the other promising autographed rookie performances — as well as a few other shining sales examples — in the gallery below. And the fact that the following cards originated from a $2 pack only makes them more impressive.

  1. It shows that collectors have been very eager to get there hands on last years and this years roookies! Tracy because this is Kyrie Irvings first card is it considered his rookie even though it doesnt say so on the card???

  2. Tracy- Are you working on stopping that “nice” comment when you do a review on the cards? Hope so, as it takes away so much from the presentation………

  3. I think the Kobe All Rookie Team cards are a big surprise as well. You see very few on ebay and they are selling all over the place in price. I am hearing they are only 1 or 2 per case!

  4. Tracy do you have any sweet Jermy Lin swatches? I’m all about Linsanity. Cheering for the Houston Rockets now that Lin’s on the team.

  5. I pulled the Kyrie Irving rookie card autographed two days ago! In the same pack got the Champions card with the Miami Heat & my other auto was a redeption. I was stoked when I opened that pack! Still don’t know if I should put it on Ebay or maybe it will age with time?!
