Hot Off the Press: A Pre-Ink Peek at 2011-12 Crown Royale Hockey’s Rookie Silhouettes

Like Wayne Gretzky on a breakaway, Patrick Roy in net or noted Fan of the Game Pamela Anderson sitting rinkside, Crown Royale Hockey's Rookie Silhouettes Rookie Cards are a thing of incomparable hockey beauty. They commanded the hobby's attention -- and much of its discretionary income -- when they debuted in Panini America's 2010 Crown Royale Football and 2010-11 Crown Royale Hockey last season.

Like Wayne Gretzky on a breakaway, Patrick Roy in net or noted Fan of the Game Pamela Anderson sitting rinkside, Crown Royale Hockey’s Rookie Silhouettes Rookie Cards are a thing of incomparable hockey beauty. They commanded the hobby’s attention — and much of its discretionary income — when they debuted in Panini America’s 2010 Crown Royale Football and 2010-11 Crown Royale Hockey last season.

This year, they’ve done the unthinkable: They’ve become even more attractive.

Late Friday afternoon we received the first wave of Rookie Silhouettes for 2011-12 Crown Royale Hockey, an impeccable 20-card batch of cards that was literally still hot off the presses. What happens next? Panini America NHL acquisitions guru Alex Carbajal began the process today — yes, on a Saturday — of QC’ing the cards and readying them for shipment to their respective players for autographing.

The next time you see these gems, they’ll be signed. But for now, just sit back and bask in their unrivaled beauty.

  1. WOW!! Those Hawks pieces are outrageous! These were far and away nicest-looking RC’s out of the mid-range products last year and it looks like you guys are ready to bury another one in the back of the net!

  2. Looks like it could be one of the Best set’s(Rookie Silhouttes) of the New Year from Panini..awesome patches (Nice Tim Erixon) ! Hopefully you guys could get NY Rangers “The Prince of New York” Carl Hagelin…he’s Super hotttt in New York..Thanks for the peek !

  3. The design for these cards in Football was gorgeous so it makes sense that it would work well for Hockey, but these are ridiculously good looking. But that is obvious.

I did notice something else though. Pamela Anderson’s Fans of the Game card was in Donruss. I pulled an insanely sweet Patrick Roy Stickside Signatures with him in net from Dominion. PLEASE tell me their might be a “breakaway” situation and we will see a “Great One” or two or many cards coming to Panini soon.

  4. They look great even without the signature. Would be awesome to pull one of these without the signature. Makes them appear like they are skating. with the blank area. Awesome! The football Crown Royale were great and the hockey look just as sick.

  6. Will there be a veterans’ version of these at some point? It would be sweet beyond words to have a Price Silhouette. Maybe use that sweet red stick from the Vault video. 🙂
