But just wait until you see what kind of sneak-peek pyrotechnics we have in store for you here on The Knight's Lance in the coming days.

If you thought last week’s one-case preview break of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball with Layton Sports Cards live from the floor of the 2014 National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland was spectacular, well, you’d be right. But just wait until you see what kind of sneak-peek pyrotechnics we have in store for you here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days.

We spent some high-quality time yesterday morning at the Panini America production facility testing the memory bandwidth of our smartphones by taking as many tantalizing pics as possible of seemingly everything 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball has to offer. Between now and when the product releases on August 20, we’re going to be sharing those images with you right here.

With so many options, we had a difficult time determining where to begin our monumental countdown. Ultimately, we settled on the simply sublime Treasured Tags insert, a new addition to the National Treasures arsenal that features some of the sickest laundry tag pieces the basketball hobby has ever seen. In the gallery that follows, we showcase just some of the beauties, including many hard-signed versions from the likes of Kyrie Irving, Larry Bird, Tony Parker, Shaquille O’Neal, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, Anthony Davis and more.

We think you’ll agree that the following images showcasing just some of the big hitters on the Treasured Tags checklist qualify as must-see stuff. Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance as we continue our countdown to the release of 2013-14 National Treasures Basketball.

  1. Love the previews, but I think I speak for everyone when I ask “Where is the checklist?”

Surely you guys have a complete checklist you can post of the product as we will have to wait an extra 3 weeks for release. I think you guys at least “owe” us that and it will garner additional excitement and discussion of NT!

  2. Very nice looking cards. I do, however, have one question, why is Dee Brown in this product? I am sure his mother would love to get one of his cards but I’m guessing most folks breaking some NT would rather not pull one of his cards as a “hit” in such a high end product.

      1. Adrian, I agree to a point. Several of the retired players that are often included in products (high or low end) have little hobby interest and/or value but at least they have had pretty good careers (Mahorn & Laimbeer have at least one NBA title each among other honors) but Dee Brown’s NBA career is somewhat less than storied. We’ve all pulled guys like Alex English, Tom Chambers, Cazzie Russell, Michael Cage, Rolando Blackman, etc, etc, etc who’s high end autos often command less than $10 but again, they have achieved a certain amount of success in the NBA. In many cases, they have had very successful careers. I repeat: Dee Brown as one of the hits in a $500 box?

  3. Wow those are very elegant and I agree with Jim there’s nothing worse than spending good money on cards getting one that is rare but absolutely worthless because of the player.

    1. Agreed. You can make a case for Aguirre or Moncrief due to their careers, even if they aren’t the most collectible. But Dee Brown or some of the other “Legends” I’ve seen in previews should not be included in any high end set.

  4. Pretty impressive gallery, some of my favorite cards over the years have been laundry tags and these look to be collection centerpiece-worthy as well. Thanks Tracy!
