Must-See Gallery: 28 Random Scenes from the Panini America Printing Facility

For the first time in a long time I ventured across town to the Panini America printing facility this morning -- essentially celebrating my second holiday in the span of three days. After all, a field trip to the Panini America printing facility is too much fun, too revealing, too rewarding and too fascinating to be considered work.

In theory, I drove over earlier today to take in the packout process for 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball, our final NBA product of the season slated to begin shipping Monday. But as is almost always the case, I got way more than I bargained for.

In addition to documenting the Gold Standard packout (look for a comprehensive gallery and video recap next week), I got to see bits and pieces of 2011-12 Dominion Hockey, 2012 Score Football, 2012 Elite Football and the mesmerizing process of laser-etching.

We’ll have tons more coverage — images and video — of this mystical Friday morning next week. But for now, here are a few quick glimpses of the utter brilliance on display earlier today.

  1. Would love to get in that Print Room! Hey Panini you ever thought about coming out with a Credit Card that you could earn rewards/points on $$ spent???

  2. As I look forward to building the Score sets every year, I REALLY like the look of this years cards! The full action layouts are awesome! Keep it up Panini!

  3. Always love the behind the scenes. The printing facility looks like an awesome place to just sit and chill and smell the wax.

  4. This sort of preview has to be my favourite that you post up Tracy. The chance to look at these cards as they roll off the line in full sheets is phenomenal. It really shows you just how small the margin of error is when it comes to cutting the cards. The way that the foil runs on the NHL cards above creates a really awesome effect.
    Thanks for sharing!

  5. Love it, Theres nothing better than to see how its all done! You guys should do something where a collector can win a day at Panini head quarters, Us Collectors would probably do anything to visit the place that it all happens!! Hey just an idea!!! 🙂

  6. It really is fascinating to see just what is involved in card production…that cards don’t roll off the line and get hot-glued together. Really cool stuff. I agree with the previous post, a contest for a day spent touring the facility would be killer!
