Add this to the miles-long list of things I didn't know: 2013 Momentum Football, which begins packing out next week, will be Panini America's first 2013 product to include headlining team-changers such as Wes Welker, Greg Jennings, Mike Wallace and Danny Amendola in their new NFL duds. That's one of the myriad revelations I discovered on Friday at the Panini America production facility.

That’s one of the myriad revelations I discovered on Friday at the Panini America production facility.

In theory, I was there to document the in-progress packout and quality-control processes for 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball. But a quick romp on the production-room floor led to a goldmine of other discoveries, like additional uncut looks at Momentum, 2013 Pinnacle Baseball, 2012-13 Innovation Basketball2013 Rookies & Stars Football and much more.

It was another mystical, magical and magnificent field trip, the results of which you can see in the gallery below. Enjoy the gallery, have a great weekend and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for complete coverage of the upcoming 2012-13 Signatures Basketball and 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball releases in the next few days.

  1. I am tired of seeing all of this new stuff, work on redemption’s that are outstanding, puig, hockey, sick of it. Where is 2012 prime cuts timeline redemption’s baseball, Finish what you started before signing puig, who could be a flash in the pan

    1. To paninis credit, they are way better at fulfilling redemptions than topps at least from my experience (I’ve gotten at least 10 from panini vs 2 from topps in past 6 months)
And to say for them to focus on redemptions is suggesting for them to just sit around and wait for players to return cards, which would probably put them out of business.
Just my 2 cents, I know it’s frustrating when you redeem a nice card and have to wait forever to get it but if you don’t wanna wait next time just sell it on ebay I’d say

  2. Terry, odds are, the outstanding redemptions are out of Paninis hands.

While they could go hold the athletes hand, the athletes are grown ups and shouldn’t need that.

I don’t blame Panini at all. Redemptions are often a necessary evil.

Tracy, how exactly does an autograph checklist get developed?
Do y’all say “this is who’s going to be in the set” and then secure the signer?

    Or

Do y’all say “we have player x, y and z committed to doing such and such amounts of autographs, lets include them”

    Or

    Something totally different lol 🙂

    Either way, I’ll continue buying!

    1. Appreciate it, Mitch. To answer your checklist question, it’s usually a little bit of both. We start by choosing the strongest checklist reasonably possible based on star power. And that’s kind of the foundation. We don’t knowingly include players we know won’t sign, though.

As to your other point, we do our best to stay in touch with the player — usually through their agents — throughout the process until the cards are completed. That can be quite an arduous chore many times, but we never stop trying. Truth be told, we hate redemptions as much as — if not more than — our customers do.

      Thanks again.

    2. Hey Mitch,
It’s not out of Panini’s hands – They hire these guys and pay them more then most people make in a year; just too sign thier autograph.

If I dont complete my jobs I dont get paid or I might even lose a contract.

For all I know, I may have worked for you and as the boss you did not feel that my company preformed up too your standards. As the boss you might say, ” I dont want them back in my work place – Dont pay them and Hire someone else. “.

Maybe its time for Panini too stand up to these Ahtletes.

And if you hate redemptions Panini – Stop putting them in your products.

  3. FYI: I haaaate photoshopped veterans. Don’t turn into Topps. Camp photos are 100x better, as are photos from the previous team.

The cards look great other than those.

  4. Those Momentum football rookie auto patches look filthy! Love the Cowboys ones as you know already haha But they have some serious POP to them. Always a good day to see some future flashy cards fro one the top card brands in the business!! Great Stuff Tracy, thanks for the peak, and have fun in Chicago!! I’ll see you guys in Cleveland next year. Just a little to far for me to go to Chi-town. Especially when I’m trying to bust as much NT Basketball as possible. Take care, two thumbs up Panini.

    1. Thanks, Jon. Appreciate the kind words. National Treasures should be a beast this year. And I was just as surprised and impressed with Momentum when I saw it for the first time today.

  5. agree with terry above. where,s the 11-12 signature series basketball rookie redemptions. lets get the old stuff out before tooting your horn on the new stuff.

  6. Hi Tracy was wondering if you know where I could find a 2011 score julio jones base red zone and base artist proof? I looked every where and can’t find them.thanks.

  7. Is the Donruss cards part of the Pinnacle set or a they for different release. I really wish Panini would release Donruss as a stand alone brand full with Diamond Kings, Elite Series, Longball leaders, Dominator, and all the other classic inserts.

This is one collector that would love to see Donruss, Studio, Pinnacle, and Score all return as low to mid tier products.

  8. Incredible looking stuff!! I can’t wait for the return of Pinnacle baseball and giving Momentum Football another possible try. Last years was rough in terms of hits for me. But this years looks much more improved especially in terms of design. And the rookies.

  9. Momentum looks hot! I liked last year and the white looks better this year! Its Def on my list to bust next.
