Voters on NFL.com have made their choice.  Offensive guard Stefen Wisniewski of the Oakland Raiders is the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week for games played September 25-26, the NFL announced today.

Wisniewski helped the Oakland offensive line clear the way for 234 yards on the ground while allowing only one sack to a potent pass rush in the Raiders’ 34-24 win over the New York Jets. His lead block on a touchdown run early in the fourth quarter helped give Oakland a commanding two-score lead.

Wisniewski was selected from among five finalists through fan votes on NFL.com.  The other finalists were kicker Dan Bailey of the Dallas Cowboys, wide receiver Julio Jones of the Atlanta Falcons, quarterback Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers and wide receiver Torrey Smith of the Baltimore Ravens.

After the regular season, five players will be nominated for Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year honors. Fans can vote for the winner on NFL.com throughout the month of January.  The winner will be announced at a press conference at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.

This is Pepsi’s 10th year as the official soft drink sponsor of the NFL and the 10th year that Pepsi will present the NFL Rookie of the Week and NFL Rookie of the Year awards.

Week 1 Randall Cobb, Green Bay Packers

Week 2 Denarius Moore, Oakland Raiders

  1. IM DISAPPOINTED IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DAN BAILY AS THE ROOKIE OF THE WEEK SET A ROOKIE RECORD FOR FIELD GOALS IN A SINGLE GAME KICKING 6 FIELD GOALS IN THE NFL IN 1 GAME IS VERY DIFFICULT SPECIALLY WHEN THE GAME IS ON THE LINE??????????????????

  2. wow! what an upset! I know that olinemen deserve respect….but Torrey Smith tore it up!!! Those numbers to me surpassed the rest. Guess I will need to add on a few more votes next week for my favorite just in case 🙂
