Hoops on the Routing Table: Playoff Contenders Patches, Absolute Memorabilia

Before hitting the road to Orlando, Fla., earlier this week for the 54th Annual Pop Warner Super Bowl, I wandered by the routinely revealing Routing Table to see what I could see.

Before hitting the road to Orlando, Fla., earlier this week for the 54th Annual Pop Warner Super Bowl, I wandered by the routinely revealing Routing Table to see what I could see.

And what I could see was the preliminary design packet for 2010-11 Absolute Memorabilia Basketball, some Rookie of the Year Contenders images from 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches and the box artwork for 2010-11 Crown Royale Hockey.

On the way to the table I also snapped a quick image of the heaping pile of approvals on the filing cabinet of Chris Reed, Panini America‘s licensing liaison. In case you’re wondering, that’s not all the routings that have been trafficked through the proper channels this season, just those that have been through the system most recently.

Oh, and because we showed you a few weeks ago the early packaging configurations for 2010-11 Donruss Basketball, we figured it only appropriate to show you the finished product, too.

One thing to note on the Absolute Basketball preliminary design packet: You’ll notice some player names and team names that don’t match up. Those aren’t errors. Those are there by design — literally. When creating the first wave of designs, our graphic designers will typically incorporate the longest possible names for sizing purposes, to ensure that every player and team name will work with every design.

  1. Let me be the first to compliment you on the initial look of the new Absolute Basketball series. These cards look good and I can see the improvements that should come with every new set. While I did have a few reservations about some of the layout schemes , I also realize these are just preliminary. I have to say though, my favorite card is Frequent Flyer insert. I feel this is probably the best looking card I have ever seen. I love how you have incorporated all the elements of the airline ticket into the look from the gate number all the way down to the bar code. Even the placement of the jsy or patch seems perfect. While I have never really been a insert fan, I can say that I am really looking forward to collecting these when they are released. Nice job, again, Panini. Keep up the good work and keep down those redemptions!
