For the upcoming 2017-18 Select Basketball release, Panini America Product Development officials are returning the best assets of past Select Basketball releases (such as the always-popular Tie-Dye Prizms, three-tiered base set and key autograph memorabilia Rookie Cards) while also delivering a wildly striped twist that first debuted in 2017 Select Soccer (Zebra Prizms). The result, however, is a colorful creation that is distinctly Select.
The rainbow awaits. This time tomorrow, Panini America’s 2016-17 Select Basketball will have arrived in hobby shops across North America to an anxious collecting base that covets the brand as much for its vibrantly hued parallels as it does for its autographs, memorabilia cards and multi-tiered base set. Indeed, Select’s kaleidoscope of colors (the Golds, the Greens, the Reds, the Blues, the Tie-Dyes) can make for a world of enchanting possibilities.
The explosion of vibrant colors. The three-tiered base set that becomes increasingly more rare with each level. The relentless pursuit of player rainbows that only a product featuring Panini America’s Optichrome technology can provide. That’s the short list of attributes loaded into 2016-17 Select Basketball, an every-year favorite that arrives for the new season tomorrow inside hobby shops across North America.
The introduction of the popular Prizm Basketball brand more than five years ago took hoops collectors by storm and paved the way for all of the successful iterations that have come since. But the power of Prizm’s Optichrome printing technology also enabled the proud Select Basketball franchise to find firm footing on the hardwood, too. Today, it’s one of the most anticipated NBA releases every year and that promises to be the case once again this season when 2016-17 Select Basketball arrives in hobby shops across North America in mid March.
Panini America is set to deliver another rip-roaring, fast-breaking week in hobby shops and in group breaks across North America with Wednesday’s releases of 2015-16 Select Basketball and 2015 Luxe Football. As always, we’ll do our best here on The Knight’s Lance to get you ready for the impending hobby heatwave, starting today with a three-box Teaser Gallery starring 2015-16 Select Basketball.
Panini America’s Select Basketball franchise enjoyed a vibrant resurgence during the 2014-15 NBA season thanks in large part to some magnificently tie-dyed Prizms and a value-delivered box-break proposition that had most experts calling it a front-runner for Product of the Year honors. Next Wednesday, the highly anticipated follow-up — 2015-16 Select Basketball — arrives in hobby shops across North America, equipped to deliver a successful encore.
Even the most fervent loyalists of Panini America’s Optichrome technology or the Select brand in general would have been hard-pressed to predict the rocket-ship ascension enjoyed by last season’s 2014-15 Select Basketball. For any number of reasons, last year’s release took collectors by surprise and the industry by storm as one of the most successful launches of the season.
On the surface, basketball trading cards and tie-dye anything (with the possible exception of a Bill Walton tribute set) seem like completely incompatible assets. But then along comes Panini America’s 2014-15 Select Basketball to swat that notion into the cheap seats. Ultimately, with the help of a little Prizm technology, tie-dye does work on hoops trading cards — magnificently so as a matter of fact.
Yesterday afternoon, Panini America’s Tracy Hackler and Keith Hower sat down with two boxes of the live-today 2014-15 Select Basketball to film a long-overdue episode of Panini Unwrapped. For 2014-15, Panini America officials revamped the Select franchise by introducing a three-tiered base set and a bountiful rainbow of new Prizm parallels, including the intoxicating basketball debut of Tie-Dye Prizms.
Talk about perfect timing. Panini America’s 2014-15 Select Basketball arrives in hobby shops across North America tomorrow, just as the Easter Bunny begins plotting and placing his own brand of goodies high and low. Indeed, the hunting season is upon us — and there’s a good chance that basketball collectors will be filling their baskets with Select all Easter weekend long.
