Panini America executives and quarterback Dak Prescott met on Thursday to investigate in detail a limited quantity of Prescott-autographed trading cards that were issued as redemptions for Panini America’s 2016 NFL Prizm trading card product.

Last week, after being contacted by an autograph authenticator and following an internal quality control process, Panini America officials determined that a small quantity of Prescott autographs received for 2016 Prizm Football may not be authentic.

As an immediate precaution, Panini America began recalling all Prizm Football Dak Prescott autograph cards, stopping deliveries to 110 customers. Not all shipments were able to be recalled, however, and 167 cards were ultimately delivered to customers.

It was also discovered that some of Prescott’s Prizm cards are still unaccounted for.  Panini has committed to remanufacturing all the Dak Prescott Prizm Football cards, which Dak will sign to replace all the autograph cards within the Prizm collection.  All the remanufactured cards for the Prizm collection autographed by Prescott will feature a special Dak Prescott hologram to differentiate the new cards.

Panini is in the process of contacting the remaining customers affected and recalling the 2016 Prizm Football Prescott redemption cards to replace them. The company urges anyone offered a 2016 Prizm Dak Prescott autographed card not featuring the special hologram to contact Panini America immediately.

On Thursday, Prescott and Panini America agreed to a long-term extension on his exclusive autographed trading card agreement to commit to delivering quality and authentic products to collectors.  Prescott has autographed thousands of Panini America trading cards during his rookie season, has participated in multiple authenticated signing sessions and received additional card shipments throughout the year and returned them to Panini America to be incorporated into products.  Prescott and his representatives have worked closely with Panini during this process since becoming aware of the discrepancies and have no knowledge of how those cards were returned to Panini.

  1. Thank you Tracy. I am happy it is getting corrected and to me sounds lile someone did the autopen with out Dak knowing thinking they help him clesr bacl log not knowing what it would cause. To someone that can see both sides i understand mistakes happen and happy Dak is fixing the issue. As a die hard Cowboys fan amd everything i have ever read or watched about Dak it is not like him personally to hurt fans or take the easy way out. We saw that in him last season how he studied the playbook took extra time trying to be the best he can be for his Mom his Fans and the Cowboys. Now personally only have 1 of his autos from playbook as it is all i could afford but as all my Cowboys cards and items they are my prizes possessions. So happy you are taking the exta steps to ensure it is getting resolved and collectors will get a true auto. REASONS I LOVE PANINI AND COWBOYS. You admit and fix any problems.

  2. Will a list of the exact cards affected be published? I saw a Prizm Dak at a show last week and know the seller, if I can confirm it’s on the list I can alert him. Thanks Tracey!

  3. It is unfortunate that someone returned signed Panini Prizm cards to Panini that were not actually signed by Dak Prescott. I don’t need to know the person responsible for this error in judgement. I don’t want anyone to loose their job or be sued. I believe in giving people a chance to correct their errors and regain my trust. At the same time, when one enters a contract with another individual or company, we expect the other to deliver what they promised.

From reading reports on this situation, there are a number of collectors who feel that Panini America should have cut all ties with Dak Prescott. I do not share that opinion. From TV interviews with Dak Prescott and knowing all the good work he continues to do for the community and charities, I believe Dak Prescott is a good man. There is no doubt, Dak Prescott is a gifted athlete and the leader of the team that many football fans favor. Many football fans wanted Dak Prescott’s autographed cards/memorabilia before this situation and I believe that demand for Dak Prescott’s authentic autographs has not diminished.

Prescott and Panini America agreed to a long-term extension on his exclusive autographed trading card agreement to commit to delivering quality and authentic products to collectors. That is what I want and so do many other collectors like me want.

  4. This explains why my redemption I’ve been waiting on for 4mths. Was cancelled and delivered back. It was like a tease. It made it all the way to my cities fedex and then cancelled and requested to be sent back. I called fedex and panini and no one could explain why it was recalled. Now I know. I hope it doesn’t take another 4+ plus mths for the replacement.
