Panini America Bringing National Treasures to Baseball? The Great Dale Murphy Knows.

It's not every day that a legendary baseball player the likes of Dale Murphy breaks a big news story in the sports card world. But that's exactly what the former Atlanta Braves slugger and two-time NL MVP did last week. Turns out the four-time Silver Slugger Award winner with 398 career home runs and 1,266 RBI is every bit as powerful with social media as he was at the plate.

It’s not every day that a legendary baseball player the likes of Dale Murphy breaks a big news story in the sports card world. But that’s exactly what the former Atlanta Braves slugger and two-time NL MVP did last week. Turns out the four-time Silver Slugger Award winner with 398 career home runs and 1,266 RBI is every bit as powerful with social media as he was at the plate.
After all, it took less than 140 characters earlier this month for Murphy to announce to the collecting world that Panini America’s super-premium juggernaut, National Treasures, would soon be making the long-awaited transition to the diamond.

With one swing or one Tweet, “The Murph” packs a wallop.
Murphy’s impromptu behind-the-scenes snapshot of his latest signing session with Panini America caught the attention of his almost 35,000 Twitter followers, many of whom were quick to pick up on the fact that those were indeed National Treasures cards he was signing. Once Murphy himself confirmed as much with a follow-up Tweet, the resulting buzz was tangible — and so were his cards once they arrived back at Panini America HQ a few days later.
The results speak for themselves, and foretell of a blockbuster 2012 National Treasures Baseball product that’s deep into development as we speak. We don’t have all of the details on the product just yet (Murphy might, though); but what we do know is that several other baseball legends, current stars, rookies and a few potential-packed youngsters have since returned their on-card signatures for a dazzling debut clearly steeped in massively sized pieces of game-worn memorabilia, hard autographs and big-time “wow” factor.
What follows is a dazzling display starring just some of the highlights so far. Enjoy this extended first look at the product — and special thanks to Murphy, who can break out news for us anytime. Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for more news on 2012 National Treasures Baseball, including the official Panini Peek first look and additional must-see imagery like this . . .

  1. Those are one of the most nicest patches I have seen in a card plus its also on card auto.
Well done! Very lucky for all baseball lovers and pride collectors. I could see them with high smiles on this. Thanks for this Tracy!

  2. Panini has been tasked with reinventing the super high-end Baseball product. To call this task “daunting” is akin to calling Hurricane Sandy a breezy day. Topps’ exclusive handle on the MLB license; Logos, franchise names, etc., makes Panini’s job all the more challenging. But I believe that Panini’s inability to use logos and uniforms will only serve to drive the company to do that which they do best; Thinking outside the box. The integration of materials previously not seen…or infrequently used in Auto/Mem’ cards, encoraging players to get creative with their autographs by including phrases and small doodles, etc. I have seen such simple modifications turn a relatively common auto into a chase card. Redemption cards for game-used hats, Jerseys, bats, gloves, wrist bands… collectors want to get as close to the game as possible.
I really like what I’ve seen from the reinvented Team USA Baseball product, and I’m certain Panini can take such creative adaptations and integrate them into National Treasures Baseball.

  3. Looking forward to getting my hands on some of this. What’s the price point going to be, if you don’t mind me asking?

  4. Excellent news, now I just need to wait for the checklist to see if that one name I’ve been waiting to see in a Panini product is in there to get REALLY excited. Thanks Tracy!

    1. I made a similar observation about another manufacturer who was churning ’11 products 3 months into 2012. Licensing affects their ability to produce cards with to -date Unis, Logos and images.
The 2012 NFL class possesses the deepest pool of QB talent since Roethlisberger, Manning and Rivers burst on the scene in ’04. Talent = $

      1. I refer to Football talent above. That said, the same rule applies to Baseball talent. How many Bryce Harper RCs did Topps issue? Trout? Strasburg? These kids are money makers. Period.
