Panini America Delivers Detailed First Look at 2017 Absolute Football (Preview Gallery)

Unique memorabilia cards have long been a part of the Absolute Football brand's DNA. In fact, more than 15 years ago the product was actually called "Absolute Memorabilia Football." Back then, of course, the brand included more than just concept-driven memorabilia cards (the pull-out-swatch Rookie Hidden Gems Autographs still hold up well today); it also included actual pieces of memorabilia (autographed mini-helmets one year, autographed framed memorabilia pieces the next and etched-glass plaques with autographs and memorabilia in the wooden base the next).

Unique memorabilia cards have long been a part of the Absolute Football brand’s DNA. In fact, more than 15 years ago the product was actually called “Absolute Memorabilia Football.” Back then, of course, the brand included more than just concept-driven memorabilia cards (the pull-out-swatch Rookie Hidden Gems Autographs still hold up well today); it also included actual pieces of memorabilia (autographed mini-helmets one year, autographed framed memorabilia pieces the next and etched-glass plaques with autographs and memorabilia in the wooden base the next).

No one will deny that a whole lot has changed for the brand since those Absolute Memorabilia years. But the Absolute brand remains a memorabilia-tinged staple even now (what with calling-card inclusions such as Rookie Premiere Materials and Tools of the Trade). And when 2017 Absolute Football arrives in early September, the product will once again offer its own unique arsenal of memorabilia cards.

New for this season are sublime oversized memorabilia cards in the Jumbo NFL Shields (featuring the entire NFL Shield from player-used footballs) and Jumbo Cleats (super-prime materials from player-worn cleats) inserts. The product also features the multi-swatch magnificence of Tools of the Trade, a veritable locker-room laundry list featuring player-worn and player-used jerseys, gloves, football, pants, socks, cleats, helmets, hats and jackets.

On average, each hobby box of 2017 Absolute Football (five cards per pack, three packs per box, 10 boxes per case) will deliver three autographs and two memorabilia cards, including at least one Rookie Premiere Materials Autograph.

Additional highlights of the product are many and include . . .

  • Autographs from some of Canton’s finest in Marks of Fame and HOF Jersey Autos.
  • The return of the rare Glass insert falling roughly once per case on average.
  • Look for Rookie Premiere Materials Autographs featuring up to five pieces of memorabilia and rare prime versions.
  • Tools of the Trade and Tools of the Trade Autographs inserts featuring up to four pieces of memorabilia and rare prime versions.

We’ll have plenty more on 2017 Absolute Football in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. But for now, enjoy this extended sneak peek:

  1. This is a nice looking card. I think Panini Absolute does a great job capturing a collectors needs with their patch cards and base cards alike. Their “sleek and estheticaly pleasing to the eye design” is a sure bet for any passionate collector. How challenging is it to biuld a base set are some of the questions I generally have before buying into a program.
