Panini America Delivers Player-Only Rookie Cards for 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot

Although Panini America's first product of the 2013-14 NBA season -- Hoops Basketball -- doesn't drop until late October, some of the first Rookie Cards of the new season are already on the market. And the only way to get one -- at least for now -- is directly from one of the 36 rookie stars who attended the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot earlier this week.

Although Panini America’s first product of the 2013-14 NBA season — Hoops Basketball — doesn’t drop until late October, some of the first Rookie Cards of the new season are already on the market. And the only way to get one — at least for now — is directly from one of the 36 rookie stars who attended the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot earlier this week.

In a stunning display of expeditious turnaround time, Panini America officials took photographs of the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot participants last Sunday and had finished trading cards delivered back to the host hotel less than 24 hours later. Each player signed 100 of his special Next Day cards last Monday for insertion into 2013-14 Panini Basketball later this season. But the company also produced limited Personal Edition cards for each player that included 60 of their own cards and a complete 36-card set featuring every player at the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot.

The Personal Edition cards were given to the players near the end of Tuesday’s shoot, turning the massive New York Knicks practice facility into something of a sports card show, with players — who received their cards with genuine, childlike glee — signing their cards before trading with fellow rookies.

It was a truly endearing scene that you can appreciate in the quick video below. But before you get to that, we first wanted to present a complete 36-card gallery of the unique 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot Personal Edition set. Enjoy the gallery, enjoy the video and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage of the 2013 NBA Rookie Photo Shoot.

Now for the must-see video that includes slam dunks, trick shots and trading cards:

  1. Cool shots!
It would be awesome if some of this rare product will be inserted
To the up coming 12-13 Panini products
Say 1:1,200 that way it would be random and really hold some surprise
    Pull!
Its also Nice to know that the young guns are signing
    Fast and on card autos.
So we expect less redemptions and we all know
That its a loose part both ways as a collector and on Panini America’s Part as well.
    Just some thoughts.
On a different topic. National treasure is a big hit! Everyone wants a piece of the action
The printing plates 1/1 are cool added bonus , when calculated the base cards are actually even rarer than Printing plates per Case.
A friend of mine Nick, suggested that
Those printing plates are definitely holding some serious mulah in the secondary market
And if those were even signed on card on the printing plates
Whoa, it will surely be even more heavily sought after.
So just a suggestion for the next baskeball product
Since there are several printing plates like it will say this is one of four of the particular player/superstar/rookie/legend it would nice even just one would
Be randomly inserted with an on card auto of it.
Another question would be that why is there no Kobe Anthology Pack inserted
    On it? Just wondering!
Anyway, great shots of the Rookie.
And Cody Zeller will win the Rookie of the year
    On Record.
    Stay cool !

  2. I would love to get my hands on an Archie Goodwin personal edition card. I just tweeted him to see if he could spare one, haha.

  3. I really hope I can get my hands on one of those Personal Edition cards! I don’t care who it is! Cards are cards!
Top Rookies will be Trey Burke, Cody Zeller, & Ben Mclemore!
Trey Burke for ROY! Trey is going to change the Utah Jazz especially with their front-court still at a young age! Don’t count them out!
Steven Adams is my sleeper for the draft class! Hopefully he can help on both sides of the floor for OKC. They really need it, especially with Kendrick Perkins still their 5. Perkins’ defense may be good, but they need an offensive threat as well because Ibaka can shy away from the big moments.
