As far as hump days go, this one promises to be . . . well . . . quite Spectracular. For today, you see, is no ordinary Wednesday. It’s release day for Panini America’s 2014-15 Spectra Basketball, which means basketball collectors are in for a vibrantly colored, Optichrome-aided kind of day full of low-numbered parallels and high-end heat. We brought you a tantalizing QC glimpse at 2014-15 Spectra Basketball last week. Today, we’re bringing you inside two quick boxes of the product with the Teaser Gallery that follows.

Each box of 2014-15 Spectra Basketball delivers seven autograph or memorabilia cards and some of the coolest single cards you’ll see all season. The product this year also has been bolstered by the addition of Global Icons, a one-per-case chase insert that showcases some of the game’s greatest international players.

In the must-see gallery below, we take you card by card through two boxes of the product. As you’ll see, not only did we unearth one of the rare Global Icons cards, we also discovered the kind of gold that makes you scream “Eureka!”

  1. I’m sure I would be thrilled to crack a case and find the case hit to be Seraphin………….smh

  2. My customers enjoy the Spectra line, but in my opinion it should be in pack form again–unless this is a product catered to group breakers then it works better this way. And from an owners’ perspective, the opportunity to have the option of selling “hit per pack” products is attractive.

    1. The trend toward high-end to very-high-end products seems aimed at breakers. Most “regular guy/gal” collectors tend not to bust more than a box or two (if that) of this expensive stuff due to budgetary restrictions. But in a case break, the average collector can spend a fraction of the wax price and still have the opportunity to hit something “big”. With breakers able to buy case after case and then spread that cost out among 30 or so people, that high-end product now doesn’t seem so costly.

Fewer and fewer products actually have packs inside a wax box. More and more, a box = a pack.

  3. Spectra has become one of my top 3 favorite Basketball product right after National Treasures & Immaculate and right before Preferred & Select. Although after seeing some preview pics of the upcoming new product “Luxe”, that might change because Luxe looks freaking amazing! But for now I’m going to enjoy getting in some group breaks of Spectra and buying at least one box for myself. I hope I pull a Wiggins auto or Jabari auto! Keep up the great work Panini!

  4. Really surprised that Adreian Payne cards have not been updated to the fact that he is with the Wolves now.

    1. Good point. Most of the late-season releases have been updated but Optichrome technology requires more lead time on the production side and somewhat limits our opportunity to change.

  5. That Dray’ Green patch is just suhweeet, hailing from a parallel set that is sure to make for some really great PC adds!

The Basketball Hall of Fame “Icons” parallel is bangin’! What a magnificent issue. Replete with some of the nicest, most robust auto patch RCs in the hobby…. Spectra brings the intensity and doesn’t slow down until the last auto has been revealed.

  6. Can I get some info on production numbers Tracy, would like to know how hard it is going to be to get one of Kyrie global icon cards. Coming from downunder i’d like to get the 6 or so Asutralians you have featured. Thanks mate!

      1. Thanks Tracy, managed to hit Kyrie’s in a case break so pretty stoked with that. Now just gotta work on the rest of the Aussie clan! Great looking product, really nice patches this year 🙂
