Panini America Highlights Two Super-Rare Legends in 2012 Cooperstown Baseball

When it comes to relative scarcity in the modern sports card arena, certain cards rank as tough pulls, others are tougher still and a precious few are so needle-in-a-haystack rare that they seem to be nothing more than rumors.

Two special cards in Panini America’s recently released 2012 Cooperstown Baseball fall into that last category. These previously unannounced inclusions honoring Hall of Fame legends Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig were randomly inserted across the Cooperstown production run at a rate of one every 9,600 packs. For those counting at home, that’s roughly once every 400 boxes or so.

These special cards don’t include cut autographs or pieces of game-worn memorabilia — just iconic Hall of Fame photography that pays endearing tribute to “The Georgia Peach” and the “Iron Horse,” respectively.
It’s just something we wanted to bring to collectors’ attention that could add an element of intrigue (or shock) to your next box of 2012 Cooperstown Baseball. Oh, and since there’s a chance you’ve yet to even see one of these cards, we’ve provided stunning previews of them in the mini gallery that follows.

Well done. Now that we are all aware.
Baseball collectors will be even seeking this legendary gems.
    Good luck everyone!
    Salute!
    Peace!

  2. That’s awesome I did not know that- Just a random question but how come Panini packs do not state odds per pack of finding inserts, memorabilia, and autos? I was just curious because I have seen other companies do so.

  3. Wish I knew this yesterday, someone broke a box there and ended up only taking the autographs home. Someone asked for the inserts, now I know why! Thanks Tracy!

  4. Wow…love when inserts are hard to find! Just like the old days. Wished I could have gotten my hands onto some of this!Have yet to bust a Panini baseball product. Last bust of a baseball product for Panini was back in the Donruss days. Gotta try some.
Also, like the snowy touch to the blog.

  5. Very Cool!
Also, thanks for the snow on the screen, I thought I was having a stroke for a minute and my vision was going crazy.
