Panini America Offers Detailed First Look at 2016-17 Noir Basketball (Preview Gallery)

During its first two years on the market, Panini America's unique Noir Basketball franchise has succeeded by being . . . different. Through dark aesthetics and a movie motif, Noir Basketball has won critical acclaim by eschewing the predominantly white color palette normally associated with high-end releases in favor of something much darker. As a result, the product has yielded some of the most attractive single cards in the basketball universe (for proof, look no farther than Noir's spectacular Spotlight Signatures insert).

At this moment, Panini America product developers are readying 2016-17 Noir Basketball for it’s late-July release date — and while the third annual Noir offering will include the best elements from those first two releases, it will also boast a new configuration that features four 10-card boxes per case. On average, each 10-card box will deliver seven autograph or memorabilia cards.

Additional highlights of the deliciously dark 2016-17 Noir Basketball include:

  • Spotlight Signatures returns to capture singular moments in time with on-card autographs and horizontal and vertical versions.
  • Hard-signed Rookie Patch Autographs in Black and White, Color, Horizontal and Tag versions.
  • New Metal Frame cards with Veterans, Rookies, Curtain Calls, Encore (featuring some of the NBA’s greatest single-player performances) and Vintage Art versions limited to just 25 copies each.
  • A stacked roster of prime patch autographs and tags that highlight rookies, veterans and retired NBA legends.

We’ll have much more to preview on 2016-17 Noir Basketball in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. Until then, however, enjoy this extended sneak peek, which includes an early look at pre-ink versions of Spotlight Signatures . . .

  1. That Vintage Art insert looks tremendous, I know people will focus on the volume of autographed content in Noir but I hope that subset gets some hobby love too. Thanks Tracy!

  2. Thumbs down. Noir happens to be my favorite product since its inception 3 years ago. My problem is that it is released at the end of the season, when I’m ready for some good football products..
