Panini America Offers Detailed First Look at 2016-17 Revolution Basketball (Gallery)

Panini America's Revolution Basketball brand burst onto the collecting scene last season with a bedazzling surface structure of sorts that placed a premium on special printing effects, a multi-tiered parallel structure and card-front patterns that demanded collector scrutiny. Throw in the infrequent-but-stellar autograph checklist and you start to understand just how it was that 2015-16 Revolution Basketball became something of a sleeper surprise for many collectors.

Panini America’s Revolution Basketball brand burst onto the collecting scene last season with a bedazzling surface structure of sorts that placed a premium on special printing effects, a multi-tiered parallel structure and card-front patterns that demanded collector scrutiny. Throw in the infrequent-but-stellar autograph checklist and you start to understand just how it was that 2015-16 Revolution Basketball became something of a sleeper surprise for many collectors.
With that first release now successfully under its belt, Revolution Basketball is ready for a solid sophomore season filled with many of last year’s bells and whistles mixed with a bevy of new wrinkles. Set to hit hobby shops across North America in early February, 2016-17 Revolution Basketball will deliver a packaging configuration that includes five cards per pack, eight packs per box, eight boxes per inner case and two inner cases per master case.

On average, each box will yield four Rookie Cards, four inserts and eight parallels (with at least one numbered to 100 or less). In addition, each inner case should deliver two on-card autographs.
Aside from its visually arresting aesthetics, 2016-17 Revolution Basketball’s key highlights are many and include . . .

  • Four inserts per box including the Revolution debut of Revolutionaries, By the Numbers and Star-Gazing, and the return of the ultra-rare Showstoppers.
  • Last year’s Galactic parallel chase continues this season with seven new parallels.
  • Find the biggest stars in Autographs and the brightest youngsters in Rookie Autographs. For the first time, autographed cards in Revolution feature new sequentially numbered parallels such as the Kaleido 1/1s.
  • At least two on-card autographs per inner case.

We’ll have plenty more to preview on 2016-17 Revolution Basketball in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. Until then, check out the following sneak peek:

  1. Very interesting configuration for this set, I’ll be interested to see what the average yield per box is and how the insert value plays out on the secondary market. Thanks Tracy!
