Through the first two games of the 2012 NFL season, the San Francisco 49ers have looked every bit the Super Bowl contender most preseason experts predicted they’d be. Now, thanks to a special partnership between Panini America, the 49ers and U.S. Bank, they have a special championship-caliber card set to match.
Beginning with last Sunday night’s stirring 27-19 victory over the Detroit Lions, fans attending each San Francisco home game will have the opportunity to collect a free limited-edition eight-card U.S. Bank set that previews Panini America’s 2012 Absolute Football design. In addition to one card in the set being distributed at the U.S. Bank booth during each home game (last night’s featured quarterback Alex Smith), fans also can pick up their cards at participating U.S. Bank branches following each game.
“We’re proud to partner with a legendary franchise like the San Francisco 49ers and on this special promotion that helps honor the team’s current superstars while also creating increased visibility for U.S. Bank, a key 49ers partner,” said Jason Howarth, Panini America’s Vice President of Marketing. “We’re excited to debut our 2012 Absolute Football design to passionate 49ers fans.”
“Since we began our partnership with the 49ers, we have run promotions that allow 49ers fans to feel even more connected to the team,” said Chris Delegans, U.S. Bank Bay Area Regional Manager. “It has been a pleasure working with Panini America to create this exclusive set of quality trading cards which 49ers fans will enjoy collecting.”
The distribution schedule for the remainder of the season looks like this:
- October 7 vs. the Buffalo Bills: Randy Moss
- October 14 vs. the New York Giants: Michael Crabtree
- October 18 vs. the Seattle Seahawks: A.J. Jenkins
- November 11 vs. the St. Louis Rams: LaMichael James
- November 19 vs. the Chicago Bears: Frank Gore
- December 9 vs. the Miami Dolphins: Vernon Davis
- December 30 vs. the Arizona Cardinals: Patrick Willis
As part of the promotion, 49ers fans can visit 49ersbanking.com for a chance to get the complete eight-card set presented in a unique display case, including some with random autographs. We’ve provided a complete gallery of the special set below.
If you’re a 49ers fan going to an upcoming home game, be sure to share pics of you and your special cards with us right here in the comments section of The Knight’s Lance or on the Panini America Twitter and Facebook pages.

Could anyone living outside of that area get them? I live across the country in PA…
Panini did something like this for the Thanksgiving Night NFL Game a few years ago (Eagles-Cardinals). Very cool!!
Sweet marketing idea! Reaching fans that may not collect. And really like the design on the Absolute Memorabilia!
