For the myriad National Baseball Hall of Fame members permeating the checklist for Panini America's upcoming 2012 Cooperstown Baseball, there is one insert set in particular that pays tribute not so much to the greatest players in baseball history, but to the memorabilia they wielded while achieving that greatness.

The poignant Famous Moments insert provides fans and collectors with something of a 20-card stroll through the hallowed halls of Cooperstown, in the process bringing to life some of the most memorable pieces of memorabilia on display in the museum.
Some of the prominent artifacts featured in Famous Moments: A baseball hurled by Cy Young during the first modern World Series in 1903. The batting helmet worn by Bill Mazeroski when he belted the “shot heard ’round the world” in the 1960 World Series. A baseball used by Nolan Ryan during his seventh career no-hitter in 1991. The baseball Mickey Mantle hit 565 feet in 1953. A fielding glove worn by Jackie Robinson. The bat Tony Gwynn used to record his 3,000th career hit in 1999.
There are plenty more — and you can get your first look at all 20 Famous Moments in the revealing gallery that follows. Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional details on 2012 Cooperstown Baseball.

Going to be best set of the year!
looks terrific. Any details on the Toronto Expo or Black Friday promotions?
Not just yet. But stay tuned . . .
I know that there will be people who do not like the cards because they do not show the player breaking the record but I have to say, these are some of the coolest insert cards out there. This is the history of baseball; these items are a piece of history that most people will never be able to get to see unless they go to Cooperstown.
I love this insert.
A very interesting and unique insert set!
Cool idea for an insert set that fits in perfectly with the theme of the release. All but two of those cards display memorabilia that was used by players who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. I am most interested in one of those two. While my mother would argue that Don Larsen’s Perfect Game in the World Series was the SECOND best thing to happen on October 8th, I am happy to relinquish the number one spot to Larsen’s accomplishment, one of the most significant personal performances certainly in World Series history and, perhaps, even in modern Baseball history. I met Mr. Larsen at this year’s National and it was a thrill. I’m sure he has met plenty of October 8th babies in his time, but he couldn’t have been more gracious about it. Thanks for putting the date of the accomplishment on the front of the card, displayed so prominently. Really looking forward to this release.
Great stuff, Ian. Thanks so much for sharing. Oh, and happy early birthday! Two gems on the same day.
When does this release? Very much looking forward to it!
