Panini America Plans Score Hot Rookies Set for 2012 Toronto Fall Expo (Gallery)

While the temperature north of the border during the 2012 Toronto Fall Expo promises to provide its normal November chill, things at the Panini America booth inside the Toronto International Centre from November 9-11 will be plenty hot. Literally.

While the temperature north of the border during the 2012 Toronto Fall Expo promises to provide its normal November chill, things at the Panini America booth inside the Toronto International Centre from November 9-11 will be plenty hot. Literally.

Panini America officials on Sunday began revealing their grand plans for the show, which once again will include a show-stealing, buzz-generating, crowd-attracting wrapper-redemption program, headlined by a 22-card Score Hot Rookies insert sure to provide a powerful blast from the past.

Incorporating a familiar design taken directly from the landmark 1990 Score Hot Rookies insert, Panini America’s 22-card multisport Expo insert will feature numbering to just 399 on the front, scarce autograph versions and a checklist littered with top rookies from all four major North American sports, including several with Toronto ties.

The set features the Ashton Carter and Jussi Rynnas of the Maple Leafs, Brett Lawrie of the Blue Jays, Terrence Ross of the Raptors and Toronto-born Tristan Thompson of the Cleveland Cavaliers. In addition, top NFL rookies such as Andrew Luck, Robert Griffin III, Trent Richardson and Doug Martin also are included.

  1. Definitely a throwback look, I feel like I should dust of some of my grunge wear to get the full 1990 effect. Thanks for the preview Tracy, I hope to *Score* one of those Lucks as they come back across the border!

  2. I was really hoping to make it to Toronto for this and meet some of you guys, sadly it won’t be happening this year. Time to move forward and try and make it to Chicago instead. These cards look awesome, love the retro score look. Keep up the great work, promotions and cool ideas.

  3. Oh yeah! I have to get my hands on this set!
I will be looking forward to the redemptions for those of us who can’t make it.

  4. looking forward to the show. When will you be announcing which boxes will be eligible to open? I am trying to plan ahead
