As we sit here on the cusp of Sunday's pivotal Game 5 in the 2013 NBA Finals, with the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs deadlocked at two games apiece in their quest for the gold, now seemed like an appropriate time to show off some of the most recent arrivals planned for Panini America's upcoming 2012-13 Gold Standard Basketball.

Panini America 2012-13 Gold Standard Basketball June 11 Arrivals (32)

As we sit here on the cusp of Sunday’s pivotal Game 5 in the 2013 NBA Finals, with the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs deadlocked at two games apiece in their quest for the gold, now seemed like an appropriate time to show off some of the most recent arrivals planned for Panini America’s upcoming 2012-13 Gold Standard Basketball.

In a relatively short amount of time, Gold Standard has struck a chord with collectors striking gold in the product, creating one of the most beloved brands on the Panini America NBA roster. But the 2012-13 edition — which begins packing out next week — just might be Gold Standard’s gold standard, the one by which all others will be judged.

An influx of superstar-level on-card autograph arrivals have hit Panini America HQ in recent days, ensuring that the likes of collection-makers such as Kobe Bryant, Bill Russell and Kyrie Irving, to name three, will have live autographs in the product. That alone is newsworthy stuff. But we’ve also gotten additional gilded glimpses of the product’s firepower this week.

The box design and execution are superb, as are the one-per-box Metal cards. Clearly, there’s a lot to like about 2012-13 Gold Standard Basketball, including much of what is on brilliant display in the gallery below. Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates.

  1. I wanna know to win one of those metal promos! I collect promo cards & I know ya got something planned, right?

  2. We are definitely going for gold! Gold standard that is!!
Wow! The bar has been lifted. Those bars would generate more than our US Treasury have!
I know I keep singing that Panini is thebest . Well Panini has just showed. Nuff said.

  3. Tracy in an earlier post you mentioned that your company was having a signing with Kobe Bryant. Did he sign his Marquee autographs?

  4. Beautiful Cards. I really have enjoyed many of Panini’s releases this year, but c’mon guys….how many basketball products are you going to release!? You’re going to kill any value for the future. Also, I understand that because of the strike last year that the trading card season was interrupted. This double rookie class should have ended 1 year after the strike did. I mean most of these guys are finished with their second season and about to start their THIRD season and we are still getting “new” rookie cards for them?

On another note, granted there was a few stinkers (Absolute..Contenders…) in relation to releases this year. There have also been some great releases (Prizm, Crusade, Hoops). Keep up the good work and everyone is really looking forward to Gold Standard and NT. I think everyone would agree that quality is much better than quantity in regards to number of basketball releases. I know you guys are working hard though and we all appreciate it and look forward to more “quality” releases!!

  5. Should have made Gold Standard Football for 2012. Was really disappointed to not see the product again. Same with Plates and Patches. Not sure why products such as prominence are made and drop a solid product such as Plates.

  6. I hope one day i will be able to open a box of it, Gold Standard is my favorite, i only have one Gold Standers card and that is my absolute favorite. These cards looks awesome, just like the previous Gold Standard cards, it is something what totally meets my taste of card design.

  7. Excellent preview Tracy, is it safe to assume the one pack per box format will return in this release? Thanks!

  8. Wow these look great!!! But Tracy, on the back of the gold cards it says “sample not for resale” what does that mean?? Does it mean that the card cannot be sold on eBay or at a card shop?? Oh and one more thing. My dad collects hockey cards and just recently he opened some packed of rookie anthology hockey. And I was just wondering are you guys going to be making a rookie anthology basketball?? I think it would be soo awesome!!!

    1. Who wants to see “sample not for resale” on the back of their cards? If that’s true, that’s lame.

  9. wow all gold everything!!! Love the on cards! Keep up the great work guys! This product will be amazing! I hope Rudy Gay has a Metal Card in the set as well! Thanks Tracy!

  10. Finally, some variety! After a few lackluster products, I think Gold Standard is going to be a breathe of fresh air.

  11. Tracy, these look amazing. Consistency is awesome from year to year with Gold Standard. Like the rounded corner metal cards. Can’t wait to see these in person. #collect

  12. Nice job with the pics Tracy. The lighting really made these glisten. And great job by the Panini basketball team again. I have yet to ever try this product but I really want to more and more by these types of images

  13. Looks very good!

Any chance Derrick Rose autos will be in this product or any in the near future? Would love a nice auto of his, but they seem tough to find outside of ones from his rookie year!

  14. Tracy, AMAZING product as usual…. One question please. Will you have Solid Gold 1/1 cards this year? Thank you ~Giovanni
