The last time Panini America's base Playoff Football brand was released, the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl, the Nebraska Cornhuskers won the National Championship, the World Series didn't happen, "Forrest Gump" was No. 1 at the box office, Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan became household names and a Clinton was in the White House.

The year was 1994 and back then, Playoff Football dazzled collectors with little more than high-end card stock, cool photography and a star-laden checklist. Clearly, a lot has changed in the last 22 years — and many of those changes will be reflected in the triumphant return of the Playoff Football brand.
Set to arrive in mid-November, 2016 Playoff Football offers an expansive celebration of some of the most beloved aspects of Playoff’s proud history, including classic inserts such as Star Gazing, Boss Hoggs, Air Command, Pennants and more. On average, each hobby box (eight cards per pack, 12 packs per box, 20 boxes per case) will deliver one autograph, one memorabilia card, 12 Rookie Cards and 24 inserts or parallels.
Other key highlights of 2016 Playoff Football include . . .
- Rare Contenders Preview Autographs featuring the top stars of the 2016 NFL Draft and numbered to just 22.
- Relive classic moments in postseason history with Playoff Pairings Dual Signatures and Playoff Pairings Memorabilia.
- Catch rare Touchdown parallels numbered to only one.
- Dynamic duos are featured in the tantalizing Thunder & Lightning two-sided insert card.
- The base set features stunning photography and an open design with plenty of parallels numbered to 199 or less.
- Headliners features prime memorabilia from some of the NFL’s top superstars.
We’ll have plenty more on the triumphant return of Playoff Football in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. Until then, enjoy this extended sneak peek:

The return of Thunder & Lighting is the most exciting part of this set for me, I was a huge fan of this insert in my early collecting years. Thanks Tracy!
Looks very nice. But what is this… product #48? That said, if they all had the uniqueness of this one, doubt anybody would mind.
Wow Playoff cards are back.
So awesome to see this make a return
