Panini America Provides Detailed First Look at 2017 Plates & Patches Football (Gallery)

For five long seasons from 2011 to 2015, football collectors went without Panini America's content-rich Plates & Patches Football brand. But the product made a triumphant return to the category in 2016 with a compelling mix of, well, plates and patches (and autographs). The rousing comeback effort was so well received by the collecting masses that it immediately earned a spot in the company's 2017 brand portfolio -- and 2017 Plates & Patches Football is set to arrive in hobby shops across North America in early February.

Once again this season, the unique product will live up to its name by delivering, on average, one Printing Plate 1/1, one Rookie Patch Autograph, one retired or veteran autograph, one memorabilia card and one parallel numbered to 50 or less in every hobby box (five cards per box, 12 boxes per case).

The highlights of the product are many and include . . .

  • All retired and veteran autographs and Rookie Patch Autographs will be numbered to 99 or less.
  • Find one autographed printing plate per case, on average.
  • Expanded patch windows on the Rookie Patch Autographs make these Rookie Cards even more desirable than in years past; look for NFL Shield 1/1 versions.
  • Massive patch cards in Full Coverage and Double Coverage. Search for Full Coverage Red parallels featuring Brand Logos or Laundry Tags numbered to five and Gold 1/1s featuring NFL Shields.
  • Look for on-card autographs of the best current and retired players the NFL has to offer in Marquee Marks and Canton Calligraphy.
  • The product’s namesake Plates & Patches insert features prime swatches from nameplates paired with a piece of prime memorabilia; look for autographed versions numbered to 25 or less.

We’ll have plenty more on 2017 Plates & Patches Football in the coming weeks right here on The Knight’s Lance. Until then, though, here’s an early look:
