But exactly which players had variations, and how many each had, has prompted many astute collectors to start asking some questions. Today, we’re going to start providing some answers.

In all 10 players have Rookie Card photo variations in 2014 Prizm Football. Five of those players (Johnny Manziel, Sammy Watkins, Blake Bortles, Teddy Bridgewater and Mike Evans) are featured on one base RC and four variations. Five more (Jadeveon Clowney, AJ McCarron, Derek Carr, Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Savage) are featured on one base RC and two variations. That’s 30 total variations varying in scarcity from SP to SSP.

According to Panini America Football Brand Manager Tim Trout, the SPs were randomly inserted at a rate of one per box; the SSPs were randomly inserted at a rate of roughly one in every three to four cases. The following gallery will serve as your visual road map through all 40 cards (10 base RCs, 30 variations). Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance in the coming days for confirmation on which of the cards below fall into the SP and SSP designations.

  1. Would have been nice to know which is which, and which were the SP and SSP two weeks ago. If it weren’t for cardboard connection having the variations list, this would be even more frustrating. They still didn’t designate which was SP and which was SSP, so that kind of stuff is what collectors need to know when the product first comes out. No reason to play games with us.

      1. Just don’t wanna be that guy that overcharges for a SP when I thought it was a SSP after ripping a box and hitting it at a show. Only way to figure it out is to look on eBay and see how many of each are listed and even then it’s tough to figure out because everyone’s title’s are different because nobody really knows what’s going on. So, while I may have oversold one at a show, I got way too little for a Manziel variation (SSP or SP, who knows?) on eBay that was also a Prizm parallel. I appreciate your input Tracy and I thank you for helping us figure all this out!! Aside from the confusion with the variations, I must say this….since 2012 I was not a fan of Prizm at all, but this year, I have bought 4 boxes since it came out and plan on getting 1 Jumbo and 1-2 more Hobby this weekend, plus have got in a couple group breaks trying to hit my 49ers. I absolutely LOVE all the different parallels. The Tie-Dye Prizm is my absolute favorite, and if they weren’t numbered so low I’d definitely do the set. Luckily, I hit the Garoppolo Tie-Dye Auto /25 and the Ebron (PC UNC) Tie-Dye Non-Auto /25 rookies and I absolutely LOVE them both. Keep up the good work Tracy & Panini!

    1. And there are None listed as SSPs. The SSPs are supposedly like 1 in every 36 boxes, yet they book at junk. The highest variation book wise is the manziel and all 4 variations books at 12 bucks.lol. What a waste of time

    2. What’s a Beckett? Beckett prices mean very little these days. Of course the base stuff is going to book low when there’s 16 parallels of everything. When somebody quotes a price from BGS these days, I usually turn around and walk away because actual sale value is what really matters and is a much better judge of the market for each card.

  2. And hasent the Manziel SSP been identified already twice on this very site? I hope that dosent change in this next comming artile because i purchased 2 that were on Ebay that were the exact ones that this site regarded as the SSP

  3. so I’m guessing the quality department took a day off or something. I received a #235 blake bortles prizm card………….with an error! his birthday on his card is listed as 12/16/1991. when in fact his birthday is april 28, 1992. go look it up I read it on five different websites and the birthdate on his prizm r.c. card is wrong.

  4. I stumbled on this article after opening two boxes of this product for Christmas. I searched the blog and never found any clarification on which variations are the SP’s and the SSP’s. Is there any info on this that you could share with us?
