Panini America Sits Down with Kyrie Irving for Super Sunday Signing Session (Gallery)

On Sunday night in a suite near the top of a downtown Dallas hotel, one of the best players in the NBA watched Seattle's Super Bowl XLVIII demolition of the Denver Broncos. But for Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, the game served as little more than ambient noise for his substantial signing session with Panini America's Ivory Tabb. On this night, Irving's primary focus wasn't the Legion of Boom or Percy Harvin highlights, it was attempting to get caught up on his outstanding and upcoming on-card autographs.

On Sunday night in a suite near the top of a downtown Dallas hotel, one of the best players in the NBA watched Seattle’s Super Bowl XLVIII demolition of the Denver Broncos. But for Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, the game served as little more than ambient noise for his substantial signing session with Panini America’s Ivory Tabb. On this night, Irving’s primary focus wasn’t the Legion of Boom or Percy Harvin highlights, it was attempting to get caught up on his outstanding and upcoming on-card autographs.

And on Sunday night, Irving was a man on a mission. He spent more than two hours signing, focusing first on his 2011-12 Limited Basketball XRCs (yes, those Limited Basketball XRCs), his Inscriptions from 2012-13 Elite Basketball and various 2012-13 Signatures Basketball cards.

From there (in between offering his own unique rendition of the National Anthem and talking about exciting it was to be named an All-Star Game starter), Irving moved on to 2013-14 Pinnacle Basketball, 2013-14 Timeless Treasures Basketball, 2013-14 Gold Standard Basketball, 2013-14 Court Kings Basketball and 2013-14 Titanium Basketball.

The next night, Irving led all scorers with 27 points and dished out eight assists in the Cavaliers’ 124-107 loss to the Dallas Mavericks

“He was in a great mood and he really wanted to catch up and be current,” Tabb said. “It’s very rare when an athlete of his caliber travels and decides to carry boxes of cards with him; he brought five sets with him on this road trip. I thought he’d only sign what I brought him, but he brought everything he had with him. That’s quite impressive.”

Speaking of impressive, you can check out just about everything Irving signed on Sunday in the gallery below, which also includes other recent arrivals from NBA stars past and present for upcoming Panini America products.

  1. Very nice! It’s crazy how solid, bold, and clean Kyrie’s Gold Standard auto is and then some of the others, especially the thicker marker ones are almost all streaky, wish he used the thin pen on all of them. Really like the Prime Sigs Filmstrip one with the #2 inscribed within the autograph. Thank you for the update. Cynthia

  2. Did Griffin sign 2012/13 preferred choice cards yet? Keep seeing him in newer product when we are waiting for older product. Thanks Tracy!

  3. 1. Nice Court Kings autograph cards. Are all Court Kings cards hard-signed like the ones shown here?

    2. Tell Irving that I said hi to him.

  4. About time. The XRC Limited should’ve been taken care of over a year ago IMO. How Panini has had his auto in products that came out afterwards is beyond my comprehension.

  5. I bet a lot of people reading this are enjoying a big sigh of relief that his autos are done and soon to be on the way. I remember jumping online right after the lottery to determine which redemption would be whose autograph trying to find one on the cheap…and failing miserably. Thanks Tracy!

  6. Nice to see Karl Malone is pictured in his Jazz uni. WTH was up with him in a Lakers uni? I lost out on his auto when I had Jazz in group break. A Travesty! lol
