It's safe to say that Panini America has big, big plans -- jumbo, even -- to celebrate the first release of the 2013 NFL season. 2013 Score Football, the landmark 25th anniversary of the collecting staple, will deliver massive 50-card Hobby Jumbo Packs and three autograph or memorabilia cards per hobby box (with at least two autographs guaranteed) when it releases in late May.

It’s safe to say that Panini America has big, big plans — jumbo, even — to celebrate the first release of the 2013 NFL season. 2013 Score Football, the landmark 25th anniversary of the collecting staple, will deliver massive 50-card Hobby Jumbo Packs and three autograph or memorabilia cards per hobby box (with at least two autographs guaranteed) when it releases in late May.

2013 Score Football will also hearken back to that original 1989 release to produce some of the most spectacularly nostalgic Rookie Cards of the year deliver — and they’ll fall 50 per hobby box on average.

In addition to the season’s first officially licensed NFL Rookie Cards and rookie autographs, 2013 Score Football also will include a jam-packed 440-card base set that includes 220 veterans, 110 RCs, three 32-card subsets (Airmail, Franchise and Future Franchise) and a 14-card Road to the Super Bowl subset honoring the 2012 Baltimore Ravens.

Of course, no Score release would be complete without the Scorecard, Gold Zone, Red Zone and Artist Proof parallels — and the 2013 edition is equipped with those, too.

Clearly, though, the big news for 2013 is Score’s increased frequency of autographs (including Inscriptions, Hot Rookie Signatures and Rookie Signatures), the inclusion of memorabilia (Franchise Fabrics, Future Franchise Fabrics) and the return of Printing Plate 1/1s.

It’s a fitting 25th anniversary tribute to one of the most venerable, value-delivered football sets of all time. We’ll have much more on 2013 Score Football (including a closer look at the retail Blaster and Rak-Pak configurations) right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days.

But for now, enjoy this first extended sneak peek . . .

  1. This is definately one release I am looking forward to. I have been buying Score since it was released in 1989. I even have an unopened box of 1991 wax at home sitting there waiting for me to one day rip into. I love Score!

  2. You certainly nailed the retro design. Unfortunately unless the cards are going to be sold at 1989 prices thats not exactly a good thing

  3. Wow. Some unique additions to Score. I have been buying it for this long. its an underrated product that always packs a lot. Cheap price, rookies galore and possible autos. but now a huge step up to celebrate.

  4. LOVE this announcement, I make it a point to buy at least one box of Score every year but this year I may up that number based on the 3 hits per hobby announcement. Thanks for making Free Agency Day (new holiday?) just that much better Tracy!

  5. Any chance of a Reprint RC of Barry Sanders auto again? I pulled one back in 1999 and still to this day it was been my favorite hit of all time.

  6. As someone who collected 1989 Score football cards back in the day, I am really looking forward to this release. Any original 1989 buybacks or the like??

  7. hey tracy will we see any julio jones jersey or autos in 2013 score football.because last year there wasnt any auto.thanks.

      1. Does this have to do with him not fulfilling his old redemptions? I have a redemption but I don’t think I will ever see the card.

  8. SCORE 2013 FOOTBALL LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I like the design. It looks classy. It is better than the full bleed of last year. 2009-2011 Designs were fantastic. This one is up there. A little disappointed only 220 veteran cards, wish there were 300 but this still will probably one of the largest if not largest set of the year.
    I Love Score Football!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Hi Tracy can you tell me if the Panini Online Support is working?.. And do you have an update on any Mikel Leshoure redemptions? Thanks

  10. Congrats Panini-this is BY FAR the best Score Football set I have everr seen. Thanks You so much for putting memorabilia cards in this set. I won’t buy much due to the obvious reason…One of the weakest draft classes ever:( Tracy will the addition of jersey cards change the previous $1 per pack price? Hopefully not-Thanks again for any new info on this set.

  11. Tracy will the headshot photos be the final rookie design or will there be minicamp/premier photos? Also is uconn lb sio Moore and lb ty powell in the product both are shooting up draft boards

          1. OK. The Black Friday promotion was great (other than the one store not having any packs), so looking forward to this one as well!

  12. I must say I am loving all the “retro” designs. Brings back some of my favorite sets of all times. The only problem I have is the printing plates. The secondary market does not re-act well to printing plates anymore. They are mass produced and well, utterly ugly. Just 8 years ago, it was an amazing hit, but now days, its nothing special.

  13. Nice set, but no luck on the sell sheet or box? RGIII might not even make it back! Luck should have been one of the cover boys! You guys should put the cards in the old classic plastic wrappers! Anyone remember this? Easy to search I know, but Score was always in plastic wrappers that looked almost like sealed baggies!

  14. Score Football has always been a fine but under-rated product.
Love the gallery; it has the “Score” look and feel, and with increased odds of pulling an auto and mem’ added to the product? I won’t sleep on Score.
    Thanks Hack’!

  15. I forgot to ask..but will the parallels be numbered this year? I miss gold Zone, Score card and those being numbered
