Next Saturday during the Dallas Stars home game against the Minnesota Wild, Panini America will honor franchise icon Mike Modano, arguably the greatest American-born player in NHL history, with a special nine-card set honoring the legend’s greatest career moments.
But this is no ordinary promotional set. For this special tribute, Modano himself selected the nine moments to feature while meeting with Panini America’s Scott Prusha during the Panini VIP Party in Toronto last November. In the coming days, we’ll reveal each of the nine moments Modano hand-picked. But today, we’re showing off card No. 1, which appropriately features a youthful Modano as he appeared when the Minnesota North Stars selected him with the first overall pick in the 1988 NHL Draft.
Next Saturday during the Stars’ game against the Wild, the club will officially retire Modano’s No. 9 jersey and every fan entering the America Airlines Center that night will receive the special nine-card Modano set. A special 10th card will be made — featuring a photo from Saturday’s jersey-retirement ceremony — and distributed during the Stars March 14 game against the Calgary Flames.
Stay tuned in the coming days as Panini America reveals Modano’s personal favorite memories from his spectacular career.
Great stuff. As somewhat an aficionado of weird and interesting ties, I must say Mike’s tie was quite colorful back in 1988!!!
Interesting. Its going to be the only score set or card this year? Or maybe there will be one card per product released by Panini? No go and fight for more hockey after the summer!
That is an amazing haircut and picture.
Another cool promotion and love the pic!
Will you be there Tracy!?
Not sure if I’ll be there, but we’ll have some folks from our team there.
