This afternoon in Philadelphia, the puck will drop on the Bridgestone 2012 NHL Winter Classic — one of hockey’s favorite annual outdoor events — and Panini America will be there.

Fans entering Citizens Bank Park later today will find a special five-card pack of Panini America Winter Classic cards inserted into their commemorative seat cushions. Those five cards will get fans and collectors started on building the complete 20-card base set.

In addition to the 20-card base set (see the checklist attachment below), there are 1/1 autographed versions of each card in the set. If you’re not lucky enough to attend today’s Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, you can at least get your first look at the set below to know what to look for on the secondary market.

  1. what a great opening to the new year panini! nice gallery!

Hope to see a football gallery today as well 🙂 Will there be one?

    1. I love the design on these!! And the action shots are amazing. especially the lundquist making a save pic. really rocks!

wished Pinnacle footballl could make a return!!

  2. Nice tie-in to a special event. The card set looks great. Pinnacle Football had beautiful photography, and was one of the card sets I fell in love with as a young collector.

  3. Nice set, but why Stamkos? I can kinda understand RNH and Landeskog because they essentially have to be in every single set, but Stamkos? Sure he is a star, but he has nothing to do with the Winter Classic.

  4. Nice set… will certainly be looking for some on eBay. I love the idea of including players from past winter classics (though I agree, I’m not sure why players who haven’t played in a WC are included, but hey… that’s why I don’t get the big bucks). Cool card idea for future classics to include past games… do a two picture card with maybe both captains from the winter classic teams from each game separated by that games WC logo and what the final score was. Looking forward to next years classic… hope it comes to DC soon.

  5. I busted 8 packs and i am 5 cards short (wc3, wc5, 2,4or 5) if you have the cards I am missing I can trade 2 for 1 for them.
