On Saturday night during the 2012 National Sports Collectors Convention in Baltimore, Panini America will treat 50 elite collectors to an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime VIP experience. And all collectors have to do to earn an invitation is something they’re already planning on anyway: Busting Panini America product — lots of Panini America product.

Collectors who purchase at least $6,500 worth of select Panini America products on the show floor through select retailers will gain access to a by-invitation-only private reception Saturday night that will include Hall of Fame special guests, Black Boxes, free autographs and the chance to bid on rare Panini America experiences.

It promises to be the toughest ticket in town during National weekend — and the only way to get it is by earning enough Panini Bucks from one of five show retailers (Dave & Adam’s Card World, Blowout Cards, Pittsburgh Wholesale, Atlanta Sports Cards and Marty’s Sports Cards) through the purchase of Panini America wrapper-redemption product during the show.

“The National Sports Collectors Convention is one of the most important weeks on a calendar for us that is overflowing with marquee events,” said Jason Howarth, Panini America Vice President of Marketing. “It’s no secret that we pull out all the stops for the National every year so that attendees know that no one cares as much for them and this industry as we do. We prove it year in and year out with our wrapper-redemption program and our unparalleled willingness to interact with our customers.

“This year, we’ll take our industry-leading engagement one step farther with a special evening that will generate buzz and positive memories that will last a lifetime.”

Collectors can earn Panini Bucks toward securing a party invitation by purchasing the following wrapper-redemption products through one of the five aforementioned show retailers:

Baseball

  • 2011 Limited
  • 2011 Prime Cuts
  • 2011 Contenders

NBA

  • 2011-12 Gold Standard
  • 2011-12 Limited
  • 2011-12 Past & Present

NFL

  • 2012 Elite
  • 2012 Prestige
  • 2011 Totally Certified
  • 2011 Playbook
  • 2011 Prime Signatures

NHL

  • 2011-12 Elite
  • 2011-12 Contenders
  • 2011-12 Rookie Anthology

Those collectors who earn 6,500 Panini Bucks can redeem them at the Panini America booth for an all-access invitation to Saturday evening’s VIP event, which will also include case wars battles with 2011-12 Elite Hockey and 2011-12 Limited Basketball for a chance to win exclusive Panini America experiences.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional details on this special event — including the announcement of the superstar-laden guest list — in the coming days.

  2. Huge announcement, can’t wait to see what will be in store for my friends and fellow collectors who will be attending the show (I wish I was). Thanks as always Tracy!

  3. Hey this promotion looks absolutely sick. I was wondering for those not in the program are those the only products you can bust at the booth for wrapper packs? Thanks!

  4. The National is for ALL Collectors including “Ballers”. We’ll have something special for everyone!

  5. A great prop to those folks who spend the big dollars at the show. As the one that infuse a lot of the money into the cardshows keep things alive for the little guys on ebay as they recoup their dollars.

Are you going to have the event done on your channel for folks to watch possibly live? Might as well let folks be enticed if they would like to do this sometime down the road. A reason to save your dough as we tell our kid so often lol.

  6. I understand that I won’t get Panini bucks if I purchase product from a vendor at the show that is different than the 5 you listed, BUT, can I purchase from other vendors and still open the product at the Panini booth and get redemption packs.

Or are Panini Bucks the new currency at the show (maybe I don’t have to spend the time opening the product at the booth like Upper Deck).

  7. Im coming for a few days, just trying to figure out where Im staying for two nights? Hey Tracy what days do you think will be the best to attend? Im just wondering it will be my first Nat, and want to be there the best 3 days I can. 6500 dollars is alot, the Signers have to be big for that kind os cash!! Cant wait to see who they maybe.

    1. Depends on what you’re looking for, Jon. The busiest days will be Friday and Saturday. If you’re looking to get a jump on things and beat the crowd, Wednesday and Thursday are likely your best bet.

  8. WIth the economy the way it is and my work situation as it is, this isn’t happening. Now, if we were talking 10 years ago, I’d be all in. Or maybe $6,500 over the course of a few years? Anyway, I do love the football products (that’s all I collect) and will continue to buy my share but that price tag is just too steep. Have fun guys! BTW, I do live in the Baltimore metro area and may very well go to the show one day.

  9. Its a nice idea for those that have the bucks to spend! But its also little depressing for the collectors that cant afford to spend that much on cards! Im only able to spend $500-$600 a month on my collection!I watch people on u tub busting box after box and notice that they dont have that sparkle in there eye anymore when they pull a sick hit because they forgot what it felt like to pull a card that might not be worth alot but still makes u feel like a kid opening a gift on x-mas! No matter what i still get that feeling and its priceless!!

    1. Well said “daveylangspreslee718”, well said. I feel the exact same way!! Everyything should be done in moderation, lol. I think I might have heard that phrase somewhere before and how true it is brother!! Keep on collecting the way you want to collect. That is what makes the hobby special for so many!! Take care man!!

  10. Great Promotion. Wish I could go but I am stuck here at my store. Panini does the BEST PROMOTIONS. Love the “Panini Dollars” concept. Panini extended the “Show Wrapper Redemption” to stores with “Black Friday” and “Father’s Day Packs.” Is there a way Panini could continue a similar “Panini Dollars” concept for purchases made in stores?

  11. Will Panini be giving away mystery packs as they did last years to collectors opening boxes at the Panini booth? Also will there be any National Treasures? Thanks, I am looking forward to stopping by the Panini booth!
