Panini Peek: 2011-12 Dominion Hockey

Given last season's highly decorated debut of Dominion Hockey as the newest super-premium superstar on the sports collectibles landscape, it would be no stretch at all to call 2011-12 Dominion Hockey easily one of the most anticipated releases of the season.

Given last season’s highly decorated debut of Dominion Hockey as the newest super-premium superstar on the sports collectibles landscape, it would be no stretch at all to call 2011-12 Dominion Hockey easily one of the most anticipated releases of the season.

And that’s before you even consider the sheer amount of improvements the Panini America Product Development team made to the product for its sophomore showing. Without question, Dominion will conclude Panini America’s 2011-12 NHL product season with a massive, thunderous bang.

The laundry list of advancements includes . . .

  • One Autographed Rookie Patch RC numbered to 199 or less in every eight-card box, along with at least two additional autographs and three memorabilia cards
  • More unique designs and fewer parallels, making for a much more expansive player checklist
  • Panini America’s first use of game-worn Gordie Howe and 2011-12 Winnipeg Jets memorabilia
  • The introduction of autographed single- and dual-player Peerless Patches
  • The etched real-silver Engravatures insert returns this season with a second set devoted to the 2010-11 Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins
  • The introduction of two-player fight-strap button Strapping Lads cards

To be sure, there will be more tweaks announced as the product launch draws nearer, so stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for those. But until then, simply bask in this exclusive first look at 2011-12 Dominion Hockey:

  1. This has got me pumped up. I love the return of the product with some of the favorites from last season. Tape to Tape returning is great, however, I was hoping for an upgrade to that. I would of called it Tape 2 Tape. It’s Tape to Tape in booklet form featuring two autographed stick tape cards from linemates. But a guy can dream…otherwise, fantastic looking stuff.

    1. Indeed! Good catch. We have that being corrected as we speak. And yes, the designer responsible is being lashed about the head, neck and chest with rather substantial wet noodles.

  2. I wish you kept the different subsets in there as well. I really enjoyed that last year because no two boxes had the exact same cards or subsets in them and it gave a lot of uniqueness. Other than that it looks great, but just my initial thoughts.

    1. Many of the subsets from last year will be returning such as Laundry Tags, Brand Logos, and Patches. However, they will have unique designs rather than just parallel the base card this year.

  3. Hi Tracy…would you know or can you find out if Chris Kreider auto RC will be in this years Dominion…Thanks and i’ll await your response !

    1. Chris Kreider is not eligible for rookie cards until the 2012-13 season. He will be making his Panini debut in Score.

      1. Hi Chris…Thats GREAT, if you can get him to autograph his cards…you got yourself a Winner, Thanks for the fast reply !

  5. Any chance that HRX is going to make an appearance as an insert in this set? I keep waiting for an ovechkin highlight reel. Also, when’s the anticipated release date?

    1. HRX is going to be making its long awaited Panini Hockey debut in the 2012-13 hockey card season. Stay tuned for who we’ll be featuring.

      1. That’s awesome. I can’t wait to check them out next year. Here’s hoping the great 8 makes an appearance!

  6. Looking nice man!! Awesome RPA’s. Whats the price gonna be for the first release? Around 3? Love the Tape to Tape series and the vet patch autos. Need some Penguins asap.
